Surprised by the general dislike for season 7. For all its flaws, I thought it was a vast improvement on seasons 5 and 6 (in my mind it would've been fine had the series ended on season 4 - though I'd still consider season 7 for Blu-ray, unlike 5 or 6 - mostly because of Issak). Agreed that the writing has been sloppy for a long time, though, and Dexter has survived on impossibly good luck (never fails to pick a lock, no-one ever happens by, never detected on camera, never really in fear for his life). Hope they pull out all the stops for season 8 and go out on a high note. Preview looks good except I'm Debra'd out.
that is the thing. For the most part season 7 was good.
The tension between Deb and Dexter was great, You believed it. You believed how bad Deb felt about his secret.
Then you get to see how Debra understands that what Dexter does needs to be done.
It is all going great.....Until Hannah happens
That's when series 7 goes downhill. That ruins everything. It is ironic because Deb does such a good job to make you believe her anguish, yet the stuff with Hannah was so unbelievable it was cringe worthy.

Agreed Hannah kind of tanks a lot of the season but I loved Stevenson, especially at the beginning. I've read back 15 or so pages and looks like everything I've thought about over the years watching Dexter has been posted -- multiple times. 
Overall good show and glad I watched. Hope they really deliver in season 8.

Really they should have ended this series awhile ago. As much as I hate to say it, because it is one of my favorite shows, but they just kept stretching it out. I hate when shows do that. That being said I am looking forward to season 8 and really hope the finale delivers. Hopefully they come out with a badass complete bluray once the show is officially over. Like maybe having some sort of prop replica like his blood slides and case? That would be sick!

I missed the news that Kenny Johnson is joining the cast this season. Really looking forward to it, but considering his fate in all the shows he's been in, and the way this show treats guest stars. . . I think I might not be pleased with the outcome.

My point being, I don't think this show has ever done well with guest stars apart from Lithgow, natch. And I really like Johnson as an actor, so I look forward to seeing him on the screen again, but don't look forward to what happens to him. Likely, Dex or Deb will kill him, but it would be nice if he's the marshal that unravels the whole thing and does something good and DOESN'T die.
