I hope this doesn't sound like I'm being negative.. just curious. :D

Will SS ever produce different 12" characters besides ones in full Clothing?

I ask this because my dreams of a 12" Gamorian Guard depend on it.
All I see in the 12" line (not just SW) are creatures or characters with full clothing.. which worries me because, hopes of a Slave Leia, Gormorian Guard, Twilek Jedi (sp), ect... will never make production because of their joints.

Has SS annonced and plans for the Licence that go beyond those Fully Clothed bodies?

..and don't use Jabba as an example because he's more or less a statue not a figure.

Thanks! :chew

If they ever got made, I wouldn't expect too much if any articulation in them. I imagine they'd be like Jabba.

I'm holding to my "After 1/6 Jabba, SS can do anything" mentality. I'm sure they can make whatever modifications necessary to do a Gammorean Guard or Slave Leia. I assume they'll be more than $50 but I'm sure they'll be worth it.

It's possible they may use a type of "skin suit" similar to what Hot Toys used on their Rambo figures. I wonder if there are patent issues with that though because it seems strange they haven't done it yet.

Or they might always make them with joints exposed. I know alot of people don't like that, and I don't know how bad it would look with someone like Aayla Secura, but the leg joints on Thunderball Connery don't really bother me. Really the only joint problems on Aayla would be the sleeveless arm and her tummy, the latter probably being the one that would be th worst. Slave Leia would be a toughie though, she'd be a joint fest and with that many joints it probably wouldn't look good.

Sadly, I would not even buy slave Leia if she's full of joints. Aayla I would buy because as you mentioned there are really only a couple to worry about. Leia would just look terrible though. They need to approach her like they did Jabba and make her more statue like than a piece with a lot of articulation.

Ditto. I wouldn't buy any figure with the joints exposed. There was a figure of Buffy The Vampire Slayer where she is wearing a formal gown and (IMO) it looks just awful. Please Sideshow, make a deal with Triad or some such company that has presentable bare joints.

Do you think they could sculpt the entire body from head to toe to look like realistic female. They could reuse it for not only Slave Leia, but Aayla, Arena Padme, Homestead Padme, and Im sure theres other bare belly bear legs bare arms figures they could make. Have articulation at the elbows shoulders knees mid thight and hips.

Prolly cause the HT joints on those skinned bodys break easy. And you could imagine the thunder that would be called down upon Sideshow if Leia's knee broke because some fan boy kept putting her in strange poses.

I think I mentioned this in another thread, but does anyone remember the old Kenner 12" Star Wars humans? Remember the knee joints on those? The entire leg was made of some kind of rubbery plastic and when you bent the knee, it sounded like a knuckle popping. Granted, it didn't bend too far, but it bent and was solid. Heck, I still have my Luke from 1978 and the leg is in great shape! I'm willing to bet Sideshow could take whatever technology went into that joint way back when & make some significant advances on it. Just so long as it's not made from some cheap rubber latex thing that dissolves in a few years...

Ive said it before and Ill say it again, 1/6 scale is for A R T I C U L A T I O N!!
If you want statues, move up to PF! They're smooth, no joints, and pratically perfect representations. I just dont think 1/6 is the scale for laser accurate depictions. That said, the SS bodies are A W F U L for bare bodied figures. I think what SS will have to do before they attempt to do Slave Leia or Aaylla is what has been precisely mentioned....map out the return on the R&D for a new body. Again, there are PLENTY places to mitigate the cost WITHIN the Star Wars line, not to mention all the other licenses that could use a better looking sculpt. I think the basic problem with the current bodies are the lack of anatomy and musculature. If the limbs looked more natural, then you could display them as unclothed pieces, but since they look more "naked Ken-dollish" it comes off hokey looking. I think there are plenty examples out there where sculpters have used the natural form to help mask and disguise articulation, it's time for SS to show the world the next level approach to this technique! I think SS can do it and do it better than anyone's done it, AND keep the same level of articulation while producing a beautiful figure!!!

Well said. I agree 100%

Sideshow is either going to have to R&D a new female body ala Triad Toys or make a deal with Triad to use their bodies ... which ain't going to happen.

MicroJow's idea of the old Kenner bodies is an interesting concept. I still have my Luke and Han figures from that collection and the knees work/look fine.

This isn't an easy/cheap fix, but it's not rocket science either. It can be done.

They'll be made with articulation I'm betting. Look at the bare legs on Abe Sapien & The Highlander Origin figures, and the bare arms on Modern Kurgan, Subway Spike and Graduation Day Buffy. More so than the articulation - the thinness of the limbs concerns me where they aren't covered - check out the pin legs on the bodies - in particular the origin McLeods. It takes a bit of fiddling with the kilts to get it to look quite right.

Personally - I'll be buying them even if the articulation looks crap - if its that bad I'll buy some triad bodies and swap them out.

Im down for WHATEVER SS does to them too! I just HOPE they are listening and HOPE they do the R&D to make the bare bodies look great! But I hear you on the McLoeds and stuff. Some of them are cool, and some are a little funny looking....

What do the triad (what an odd name for a toy company...) bodies have that make the joints look better?

And Sideshow isn't strange either? :lol It is a strange name for a company who hasn't made any "sideshow" figures (at least to my knowledge). Perhaps we could get an article on the origin of Sideshow's name?

Those triads look nice, but don't have the of range of articulation other bodies do. If you don't like joints on ACTION FIGURES, stick with statues. I want my figures to move.

There is only one character that shows the full body flesh, and the other fanboy crush character is mostly clothed. I don't see the point in making new bodies for 2 figures.

Well, true, but sideshows aren't a criminal enterprise...
