Sideshow bodies still need to be improved so figures can hold natural positions with their arms. For example, I wanted to pose Skinner with him holding his cellphone to his ear. With the current body, this is impossible.

No its not. I did it with the exclusive Doggett. He isn't in that pose anymore, so I can't post pics.

Please repose him and take a pic. I've stripped Skinner naked (and Luke). Neither of them can bend enough at the elbow to reach that position. Believe me, I've tried. :p

What do the triad (what an odd name for a toy company...) bodies have that make the joints look better?

Better sculpted bodies and paint. The reason Sideshow figures look hideous naked is because the bodies were all designed to be under clothing the whole time. Another reason why the exposed figures tend to look bad because they're just raw plastic, contrasting with the painted face of the figure. Triad's approach is to paint the entire body. If you're looking at an uncolored tube of plastic like a Sideshow figure's arm, your eye is going to be drawn to the cuts of articulation. Paint won't eliminate those at all, but would contribute to an overall more pleasing visual appearance that might lessen the garishness of the joints.

The topic has nothing to do with the bodies under the clothed figs... those are fine! Cause like you said they are supose to be clothed.

My concern is will SS ever produce those "not so clothed" bodies, knowing that joints will show?????

They are not fine. Until Sideshow bodies can hold natural body poses, there will always be room for improvement.

I dont think they will produce any figures that are showing skin until they get a new body type that is more detailed and anatomically correct. Females are the only ones in Star Wars who ever really bear any skin so they need to come up with a realistic female body that closely matches Portman and Fisher so that it could be used for figures like Slave Leia, Ripped Shirt Arena Padme, and.Aayla Secura. I do think they are working on this and Im sure in a few years we will have Slave Leia to go along with Jabba. I think this body along with the hobbit and dwarf size bodies for LOTR is there main focus in design at the moment. At least I would hope so.

Agreed. I KNOW they have to see that since we ALL were willing to fork over almost $500 in once span for the Leia, Jabba, Throne, Creatures, and Bib, then the money is definitely there to make the investment in R&D.

BTW, I had forgotten about the HOBBITS! SS DOES already have to go back to the drawing board on new bodies for those! I think a new female body can be used for way more than the 3 SW females. Im sure there were plenty of scantily clad Bond Girls that havent been made for the same reason....
Personally, I think a more antomically accurate body for both the female AND male figures would complement the unclothed AND the clothed pieces. I dont know about anyone else, but I dont like the pointy shoulders (persnikity I know) you can see under Anakin's tunic....but that's just me.

And I forgot they are working on Chewbacca from what Ive heard. Once they get Chewie right they can work on other furry Star Wars charachters. I also hope we get the two droids next year.

How does Hot Toys do it with Rambo? Rubber over the body right? But how does that limit posability?I'm full of questions! Well I'm sure if Hot Toys can do an exposed Rambo, SS wil figure out what to do, besides this Star Wars line is only what, not even a year old? They'll get to it. I'd rather them take time on easier clothed figures, and get those right before we move on. Not to say they don't do them right, but they did have to do some learning with long arms Luke, Lipstick Anakin and chubby cheaks Han (sure it's not out yet, but them jowels where on him at the con!)

I hope Sideshow gets to continue making the figures but all Hasbro has to do is not renew the license and Sideshow stops making 12" figures. I dont think that will happen but it is Hasbro who has the power after all.

Well yes but Lucasfilm gave Hasbro the liscense through like 2018 to make not only 3.75" figures but the 12" as well. Actually its a certain height range they control but it encompasses both sizes, I dont remember the range though. Anyway last year Sideshow leased I guess is the best word for it the 12" or 1/6th scale license from Hasbro for 3 years(well thats the number everyone throws around). At the end of three years Hasbro can renew it again which they probably will or not. They mishandled the line since 1998 and it has not been the same since. In 1998 by the way Hasbro rerelease the figures from the past years exclusives as that years line up. This angered some fans including myself and I have yet to buy those that were straight redos from the exclusives plus they changed to alot less cool packaging. The Collector Series packaging was just sweet.

If Hasbro can potentially take back the line, that's a scary thought. I can just see some executive noting the popularity (and secondary market value) of the Sideshow figures and thinking, "Gosh, I guess we let a very lucrative license slip away. All that money could be ours! Let's take it back and return to the land of mass-produced 12" figures!"

However, it sounds like Sideshow acquired the rights in a friendly and cooperative fashion, and they should have them for the foreseeable future.

Well, if Hasbro takes it back that will be the end of my 12" buying for SW anyways. I want to see all those that complain about the 12" figures from SS reactions to Hasbros redos if that happened.

I just hope they wouldnt do that but its something that I could see some executive who doesnt know the difference between Star Wars and Star Trek saying look how much attention and profit this company made off these figures we need this line for ourselves and since we need to rush to market to capitalize lets rerelease the worst figures we made for 10 yrs.:D

I wouldnt mind for Sideshows line to last 10 years. That would give us at least 120 figures. not as many as Hasbro released but remember they release an the exclusives of previous years lines in the next years regular line. I will be 31 in 10 yrs and will probably need the money for things like kids instead of collectibles. I am glad they got it we would probably never gotten a 12 " Jabba from Hasbro along with all the other great likeness of the figures. The only thing I wish Hasbro would have released before they leased the rights would have been 12" Max Rebo and his organ and the 12" Sy Snottles and Droopy McCool two pack. I never have seen any shots of these but I would love to get the band. Hasbro could do well when they tried for instance the Gamorean Guard was a really good figure but it just didnt sell because he didnt have a Jabba to guard.

I doubt Hasbro will take back the license. 10,000 figures, more than any Sideshow figure has sold(well, maybe not maul, dunno though) is a drop in the bucket for hasbro. The basic 3.75" figures in the Hasbro ROTS line had production runs in the millions.

The numbers Hasbro wants to deal in, the numbers that would be necessary for stores like Walmart, TRU, etc to even carry the line, would be multiples of whatever the highest number of figures Sideshow will ever sell.

I'd like Sideshow to do a 12" "General Greivous"!

I know they said it would be practicaly impossible but I think it could be done. The extra arms could be attachable/dettachable from his back or something.
