Do you think the value will ever jump up in these figures?

I know most collectors don't bother with value, but I was in a bind and thought I'd get a decent price for my Sideshow Jabba and throne set.

Even new they're going for less than what I paid. Some aren't selling at all. The same can be said for most 12" Sideshow figures in the Star Wars line. Some are going for less than half the original price, brand new.

Are people just not collecting Star Wars figures much these days? I have a huge collection from the mid 90's on up as well as some vintage, including Hasbro and Sideshow, and nothing seems to be worth much monetary wise right now. After 15 years you'd think something would have went up. I'd be better off giving most of this stuff away than trying to sell it.

I could be wrong. But it seems to me that there is some serious burn-out going on with Star Wars right now.

And I am cool with it. I am looking forward to the day that I can do the troop-building that I really want to do at a manageable price.

Prolly not. Exclusive Jedi Luke is the only one holding any value, and when a better version of him comes along, will drop like the rest.

I think in years to come...the ones you will see reach some considerable growth are the older medicom figures that were limited to 1000 or so..like the ROTJ Vader and stormtrooper. For one they were made in japan and had to be brought over..and the other is they were expensive to start relatively speaking with other figures at the time. Our sideshow wont be worth anything greater than retail probably until after anyone reading this now is long gone.

The only pieces worth owning from that line are Old Ben, Vader and Stromtrooper.... Trying to be a completist in the Star Wars 1/6 genre is like the equivalent of setting your money on fire. Even for hardcore fans, I don't see how they could do it. I tried and failed.

Nobody knew about the line when Jedi Luke came out, around the time of Bespin Han, and such, the line was going full-force, then when the Endor Striker Force set came out, it reached critical mass. People realized they weren't going to collect everything because it would be too expensive, Star Wars collectors were used to paying Hasbro prices and it was easy to get everything when a fig was $5 and a 12" was $20.

The problem was Sideshow based a lot of the later production numbers on the gangbuster sales numbers they had at the time, hence the Inclusive edition. . . which was a huge bust. A perfect example of why edition sizes should be limited. Everybody was griping that they couldn't get in on the PPO, so demand led Sideshow to create an open "exclusive" edition. Problem was, everybody and their brother placed an order, then cancelled it once they realized the whole package was $400.

That's why Jabba is only $70 or so.

Same thing is happening on a larger scale. People were buying gobs of Star Wars merch thinking something was going to be worth something in the future, so Hasbro was selling tons of stuff and made more stuff, production goes up. So, nothing was worth anything because there was no scarcity.

There are several SS figures besides Ben and 'Trooper worth owning.

Collecting toys is not an investment. Just a few high end Star Wars items hold their value well.

We're also in a recession right now so selling anything isn't good. Once things improve maybe demand will too? Its a buyer's market right now.

I figured something like the 1/6 Jabba and throne would be somewhat of an investment being the throne is limited and pretty cool. I didn't collect everything thinking it would all be worth a fortune one day. But some things I had a hunch...oh well. It's hard to tell what collectors have a taste for.

I've found that some things really don't go up in value until you no longer see them on eBay. It's like someone not craving a cigarette until the pack is empty. I bought a 19" JUN Planning Stripe figure a few years ago for $100, just sold it for close to twice what I paid, and have tons of people asking me questions about getting another one. I could have gotten much more with a buy it now. Probably twice what it went for.

But when I bought it they were just sitting on eBay, not going anywhere...no one cared at the time because they were readily available.

That's exactly why I'm selling a bunch of stuff: most of which I'll probably regret later on. But I refuse to basically give things away unless I can't afford to eat.

do you mean thats exactly why you are not selling things right now?
Im confused...

I'm selling things because of the recession. I guess that was a little confusing.

It looks like the only things I'll get somewhat of a decent price for right are the vintage figures...some of them. I hate to do it, but they're just sitting in boxes anyway.

Ah. gotcha. sorry to hear that man.

Ive got some SW stuff Im trying to sell too, and not having much luck with it either.

I don't know if they will or not.

From my position though, and I've only been collecting 1/6 since about December, I really have no interest in this line besides a very few pieces.

Starting as late as I did I've been going back and picking up older figures from previous lines. I tried to get into the SW stuff as I'm a big fan of the original 3 films but I just can't. I don't really like what I'm seeing from the reviews I've read and the videos I've watched. Not even for some of the prices on Ebay...IMO they still aren't worth the money.

As I might be a potential buyer for some of the collectors that would be selling I'm totally fine with not having any of them and waiting to see if they revisit any of the characters I would be interested in.

Maybe Sideshow will do something similar like Hot Toys DX or something, and I would be game for buying them new and with upgraded sculpts. As for going back and buying any of the old/current stuff, I'm pretty much not interested.

I do agree that there are some pretty good ones still. I like the old Ben, the Stormtrooper's (would love a Snow Trooper), the Clone Troopers, and Tattooine Luke looks pretty good.

I have the Vader and I really like that figure, it was very well done, but the rest of the ones I mentioned aren't must haves for me. Now if they did a great Han, Fett, Jedi Luke (don't completely like the one they did...it's ok), C3P0 and R2...I would be game and probably go back and buy the others I mentioned. Right now, I just have my Darth next to my Darth hilt...works great for me.

I know. If you look on eBay it seems like very few people are bidding on Star Wars these days unless it's something pretty rare. Even then they aren't going for much.

I started collecting right before the prequels came out. Things were going for much more back then than they are now, even vintage toys. Maybe the prequels also helped kill the market. People got a Star Wars overload and the magic was gone.

I hate to say this, but long ago I quit buying these direct because I found that if I could wait a couple of months or so after general release, I could find them cheaper than retail. Vader was my last direct buy and it was only because I really wanted the exc.
