Do you think the value will ever jump up in these figures?

Can somebody better explain the "inclusive edition"?
I don't understand what this means?
I am lead to believe there was a regular, excl., and inclusive edition?

"Exclusive" figures came with a special accessory and were limited to a specific amount.

"Inclusive" figures also came with a special accessory, but there was no set amount. They were still limited.

I believe that's how it works...it's been a while since I bought one. And I don't think there has been a regular, exclusive, AND inclusive version of a figure.

Okay Example...I once owned Sideshow maul 1/6 regular.. I know it exists.
Was there also an exc. and inclusive?
Were the special accessories in both the exc. and incl. the same?

No, there was only the regular and inclusive versions of Maul. It's either regular, regular and exclusive, or regular and inclusive with any figure. Inclusive doesn't say, "Limited to XXXX pieces", but the demand is still higher because of the extra accessory. Inclusive Maul came with a damaged light saber hilt. I haven't even taken mine out of the shipping box, actually.

The value will only jump on the ones worth having because they are a) great likenesses and b) iconic characters or outfits, which are unlikely to be bettered anytime soon. Both these factors have to be present.

Old Ben, Luke and Han Stormtrooper, Jedi Luke are all great or good figures of iconic characters or outfits. Leia Boussh is a great likeness but not really iconic. Smuggler Han is iconic...but the likeness, although many people like it, isn't a slam dunk.

We're also getting more savvy as collectors and observers of the market. The figures would have to be Hot Toys quality across the board before the whole line became sought after; and as it is, I think people realise that when SSC gives up the licence someone better, like HT, will take it over. So then your SSC Star Wars collection will look as dated as your Hasbro 1/6 collection looked when SS started doing Star Wars.

Star Wars is in great shape as a brand, though - my local park is full of kids wearing CW t-shirts and playing 'Star Wars'.

If that would happen I think I would stop collecting the 1:6 line. Especially when the prices of the "regular" figures are going to be between €100,- and €200,- and the trooper figures between the €200,- and €300,-.
Take as example the Medicom 1:6 line. The droid's they have made are running for €215,- for 3PO and €205,- for R2. In my opinnion that's to expensive. €420,- for 2 figures is to much for me. I hope SSC holds the license for a long time...

No and who the ____ cares if they do or don't?

I dunno...people who want or need to sell them and hope to get at least what they paid? Maybe a little extra?

I do have a couple that will bring slightly more. And more than a few that'll bring much less.

if you like them buy them - if you think that one day you will make your fortune -- i think that ship sailed several years ago- probably pre ebay - a bit like comics
my eighties stuff- batman and spiderman went up to stupid amounts over the years and now is worth a fraction of that- if you can sell it.
evilbay means you can pick stuff cheap if youre careful so who gonna pay top dollar?

It all depends on what you have. Just about every "collectible" I've sold on eBay so far has fetched more than I paid. I paid $79 for an interactive R2D2 and sold it for $250 a couple years later. I also have a limited Applause Jumbo Plush Yoda from FAO that I have yet to see on eBay (it's pretty life-like...over 2 feet tall seated), so who knows what that could go for. It's hard to find that in a search engine period. Everyone who sees it wants one.

But yes, most of it will bring less since I was collecting everything Star Wars in the beginning. It's hard to tell at times what people will fight over in an auction, so who knows.

I agree with the poster above, every OT Star Wars item I've sold I've made a good profit:

SSC Darth Vadar, originally paid £79.99 - resold for £120 - 15% (fees) = Net profit £22 or 25% profit margin

SSC Stormtrooper x 2 = £50 each - resold for £190 - 15% (fees)
= Net Profit £61.50 or 60% profit margin.

Whereas for the prequal triliogy - not so good

SSC Utapia clone trooper - resold for what I paid.

Go figure!

What moron paid $250 for an R2D2 interactive droid? I bought mine like two years ago at the mall for $99 at brookstone. I see them online all the time for around that or a bit more.

That's how much they were going for on eBay a few years ago, before they came out with newer models. I saw some go as high as $300. I had two but only sold one since I didn't think the open piece would be worth anything.

It's one of those crazy things where the price goes up and down. Some people are paying up to and over $100 for USED ones on eBay right now. Most on eBay are used.

Who knows if they'll ever go as high again, but at least I struck while the iron was hot.

There is simply way way too much Star Wars memorabilia out there. It stands to reason that there may not be enough of a supporting paying fanbase to keep everything produced in demand. Whatever does become hot, which sadly isn't all that much, might just as quickly become cold once the next neat looking thing pops along.

When it comes to Star Wars collectibles, like Marvel collectibles, you really have to be somewhat selective in your purchases if you have secondary sales marketing in your mind...

That's exactly what I learned after hording tons of Hasbro stuff in the 90's that's pretty much worthless. I don't even display anything anymore except for a couple larger pieces, so it's just sitting in the attic taking up space.

Even the 12" vintage figures, MIB, are going for less than they were a decade ago. Even IG-88, which I saw sell for $1,500 around that time in a mediocre box. If I do sell any of my vintage figures, I'll start the price at what I would like to get, and what happens happens. If someone wants it bad enough they'll buy it. If not, I'll keep it.

In a word, no the value will never jump up on Sideshow Star Wars figures. Some are more desirable than others and so may hold their value a bit better, but with very few exceptions they always go down in value.

I can only see it getting worse in the future. Not to be too much of a downer, but unless Lucas pulls something incredible out of his hat with the upcoming TV stuff, Star Wars as a phenomenon has peaked. I'm sure it'll last a long time, but it's probably all downhill from this point onward in terms of the number of fans willing to buy stuff like this. That means demand is only going to go down over time.

Also, think of what happened with the Hasbro figures after Sideshow took over the license. Collectors bought a lot of the mediocre-at-best Hasbro stuff, but once Sideshow's stuff came out, you couldn't give the Hasbro figures away. It's entirely possible that in 10 or 15 years another company will come along with stuff that makes today's Sideshow figures look like the Hasbro stuff did.

So in the near future, I can only see prices holding at the level they are now, or possibly going down. I suppose it's possible that they might get more valuable over the very long term, like 30+ years from now, but otherwise I just don't see it.

Personally, I think being patient and just waiting to buy everything on the secondary market is probably the best strategy. Heck, if you wait a while you can often find the non-exclusives on clearance.

Wow...I wasnt aware...actually I didnt know they had been out so long

I agree...and with some of the prices sideshow is asking now..which I think are getting ridiculous...by the time they hit your doorstep they are already worth less than what you paid (with the secondary market) Kinda sad. For my money though..i know some of you say its not worth anymore, but the Jabba with throne and all the setup is by far the most impressive sideshow star wars figure to date..including PF's. You pick up that throne for the first time and you can feel the greatness..and hernia. lol

I think Jabba in particular has the problem of size working against it. I can't tell you how many people I've heard say that they decided to sell their Jabba setups because they took up too much space, or maybe they never even got a chance to display them at all. But it is a great piece, and with the prices of figures now it seems like a bargain even at regular price. It's a shame it's not keeping its value. I bought a second MIB Jabba figure for $40 on ebay a while back (that was the starting bid and nobody else bid).
