A story reported by the Guardian newspaper about how RTD will write away the Doctors regeneration limit and i as the article mentions make him an immortal in an upcoming episode of 'The Sarah Jane Adventures', i presume in the forth coming 'Death of the Doctor' or whatever the real title is lol.
I so hope this is a nasty rumour, i have defended RTD quite a bit but im starting to realise why most Whovians hate the guy, because he writes 98% crap. Im peeved that Moffat has finally taken over the show after RTDs big publicised exit and yet less than a year has passed before RTD was back writing for a Doctor he should have nothing to do with. anyone know if any truth is in this? i thought i would post it truth or not to gather some opinions on what people thought about the Doctor becoming immortal?

I've always expected that they would come up with some way of negating the 12 regenerations limit, but I still really, really hate the idea. The Doctor should have his time like everything else in the universe.

Hey I'm cool with him gaining a NEW regeneration cycle(though NOT immortality).. they offered one to The Master in The Five Doctors. Now, granted, they would have to bring back the Timelords and find some way to end (or negate altogether) the timewar as well as return Rassilon to the tower but They COULD do it if they had any imagination.

Heck, I could come up with a plausible scenario incorporating old villains not heard from in some time (that we know of) and have them be the cause of this time-war as well as the time-war in The Three Doctors.

Who here honestly thought that, based on a few stories, the BBC would end DW at the end of the 13th Doc's tenure?

That being said it's a toss away line with no real meaning. Doesn't really change anything, and its just being put out there to generate buzz about this episode.

Besides, since when was the Doctor ever a reliable source for anything to with numbers? Be they his age or regeneration limits. :lol

I'm not a believer in diplomacy so I reckon Moffat should either,

A) Punch out RTD and tell him to stay the _____k away.

B) Offer me a large amount of money and promise to cover the legal fees if I did the same.

C) Let him have his way and then in the very next episode do an ultra cheesy timey wimey reset that renders the entire RTD era null & void.

I don't even like Moffat that much but I think it's wrong for RTD to try and undermine both his authority as show runner and his plans for what he wants to do in terms of character development by using SJA as a vehicle to further mess with the Doctor as he's done more than enough damage already.

The 12 Regenerations thing was inevitably going to be changed at some point but if that cretin does it he'll inevitably make a mess of it so for the good of the character I hope that article is BS.

I took a first look at another JNT era story today in the form of "Battlefield" and I absolutely LOVED it!, I think it's the best story I've seen from the post Tom years.

All the main cast were excellent, the blue demon mask was suprisingly good and the Brig even got a decent looking helicopter to fly about in....did JNT & co start to get their act together during the final series as it certainly appeared so.

After 2 stories Ace is already becoming a close 2nd to Leela as my favorite companion, so far I've seen her attack a Dalek with a baseball bat ( in "Rememberance of the Daleks" ) and show a tremendous enthusiasm for solving problems with explosives which for me is much more intresting than the stereotypical helpless females that have to wait for the Doctor to save them every week.

Seeing as how the Master was able to circumvent the regeneration limit I always figured the Doctor could as well but I don't think RTD should be the one who gets him out of it. Jesus, that guy really f'd up Who. Steven Moffat just spent the last season undoing everything RTD did to screw up the continuity of the Whoniverse and now he wants to bring him back so he can screw it all up again?!?!? I just want to see how the Valeyard plays into it.

Restoring Gallifrey & the Time Lords should be simple.

Remember in the series 5 finale how the Doctor talked about destroyed planets leaving "echoes" in space that were enough for the whole planet to be restored when the TARDIS caused the 2nd Big Bang?

If that's not a ready made way for bringing Gallifrey and the Time Lords back as well as the proper Cybermen's homeworld of Mondas then I don't know what is.

Big Bang II was simply Moffat hitting the "Reset" button on New Who.

What is he undermining exactly? You think the Doctor really has exactly 507 regenerations? It's toss off line meant as a joke.

All the fan drama is starting to give me a headache. It's a total non-issue.

Damn! I always thought it was 506 :gah:

Imagine a successful coach leaves a sports team and the replacement also does well or arguably better in a shorter period of time.

If the first coach suddenly came back to the team in some other capacity and tried messing with his replacements team selections and tactics there'd inevitably be problems.

Though not quite on the same level the same thing applies with Who, Moffat's done a decent job in his first year and Matt Smith was excellent so the last thing they need is RTD sticking his nose in and changing stuff that may conflict with future plans.

I imagine he checked to make sure it didn't but it just makes it look like he's regretting his decision to leave so he's using his position in charge of the spinoff to weasel his way into writing for the character again.

While i knew BBC would never kill off one of their biggest shows because of some limit set i was hoping for it to be revealed how many lives he has in a nicley built story or story theme during 12 or 13's run. I didnt mean to get all fanboy dramatic about it but i dont like how its going to be mentioned on the spin off show, wrote by a past producer who quit to move on to other things. Im looking forward to this years special and getting the series 5 boxset, ienjoy the extras they bundle in and this year has some mini-episodes set in the Tardis between some episodes.

Whatever happened to the days where we could enjoy a show without worrying about behind the scenes politics? :monkey2

I'm not going to get all bent out of shape over rumors and speculation. If any of this does come to pass, it will be disappointing, but not the end of the world. :dunno

By the way the "fan boy drama" comment was in reference to GBase. Not anyone here.

:)

Would you say that GB was worse than OutpostWho?

If so I'm staying well clear as I don't want to be responsible for any heart attacks or seizures caused by my opinions of certain eras :)

I only read the toy section at Outpost so I am not sure. But since GB's readership is about 100 X bigger I would assume it is 100 X worse.

There are people posting on their who are WAY more acerbic than you in their opinions, believe me. :lol

I don't know whether to be alarmed or reassured by that. Maybe a bit of both :lol
