This week was considerably better than the previous 2 which was inevitable considering Moffat didn't write it.

There were a couple of nice moments from Smith and the guy playing the ship's captain was really good but it was still pretty average overall.

Beg to disagree, thought is was a mess, poor script, poor editing and very disjointed. Just really the result of a silly idea the production team had. I expect beeter from Who now.
See the lady looking through the slot was back, Amy's Midwife perhaps. Have a feeling that this series is gonna end with Bobby Ewing coming out of the shower.

Oh my god, they killed Rory! You bastards!

lol, I just watched it and came here to comment "He's Rory, not Kenny!", but you beat me to it! :lol

I loved this episode, and there wasn't any of the "insider baseball" that plagued the premier for new viewers.

Really looking forward to the next episode, my favorite writer writing for my favorite TV show? :thud:

Aside from the hilarity of Rory trying to overtake Captain Jack 's record that scene did raise one question,

The Doctor is telepathic, a master hypnotist, can temporarily stop his hearts to fake death, has vast knowledge on pretty much everything gained from being several centuries old and has genius level intelligence....but we're supposed to believe he can't do CPR?

Come back RTD, I take everything back!

I figured it was because 1) the mermaid would have intervened had the Doctor attempted anything and 2) it was something that Amy herself needed to do.

nice little filler episode, funny in the right places.

I took the CPR as something he shouldnt get involved in, Rory wanted her to do it and after the Doctor getting involved within all their troubles and helping them he let the moment lean on Amy...Im pretty sure he wouldnt let him die all the way, it was just a lesson he needed Amy to take.

It was just another attempt to show how much Amy loves Rory. One of the big complaints from Amy haters last season was that she was too cold towards Rory, so Moffat seems to be going out of his way so far this season to show just how madly in love she is with him.

Fair enough but did he really have to go for the fake death option AGAIN just to demonstrate this?

Unlikely unless he's got even less in the way of new ideas than his predecessor. So far it's looking that way.

I don't see how long they can remain married if Rory has to die every couple of months so Amy can remember she does actually give a crap :lol

If Moffat is trying to convince us all Amy gives a crap about Rory he's doing a poor job of it.

So far this series Amy has,

Called him a moron several times.

Hidden the secret of her pregnancy from him.

Professed her love for the Doctor although she tried to play that off as being about Rory......except the line "My life was boring until you fell from the sky" doesn't really sound like she's referring to him. At all.

They made a huge moment out of Amy promising him never to give up on the CPR and then she stopped within seconds :slap

Totally agree. The first time I watched the episode, the CPR scene was a little off putting considering the fact that the Doctor should be able to save Rory and do it without question. But on my second viewing I realized that Rory wanted Amy to save him and no one else. It was a very subtle approach touching on their relationship and what it means in the grander scheme of things. Their relationship is very rocky anyway and by Rory asking Amy to save him, he was putting his life in her hands the way a husband or wife who trusted their significant other really would. This scene will definitely have meaning for what is to come, trust me on that.

Overall, the episode was a good stand alone one, extremely funny, witty and touching. 8/10 for me.

Seperated at birth?

Moeffat has also had a rant at people who post online spoilers,

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-13353367

The irony of his calling someone else's writing ham fisted is hilarious.

I'm a pretty big spoiler-phobe, but I don't agree with this statement at all:

"Stories depend on shocking people"

Shock and surprise is just one way to go about storytelling. If that's you're only trick, you're gonna end up being the next M. Night Shyamalan. I think Moffat is really selling storytellers (and himself) short here.

It must be tough trying to create decent twists for episodes and keeping them secret and slightly disheartening when they escape but what else can you expect from advanced screenings? unless there was a secrecy clause to be signed when the viewers entered the screening then it was pretty much free reign to discuss what they saw, not polite but not wrong. I'd hate to be a writer in this day and age with the immense availability of information from anywhere on the planet and try to keep something quiet but what else can you expect if your forerunner of Doctor Who? its not a small program, the reason its still around is its fan interest and adoration towards it, people are bound to want to talk about it if they had just seen two episodes before the rest of the world...Its his own fault for having such a massive public drive.

In Moffat's world, it's his way or the highway.

He's so far up his own arse I'm suprised he allows anyone else to write anything although it's a good job he does otherwise there'd be even less reason to watch.

With the current setup there's at least a fighting chance of there being 2 or 3 good ones a series....usually the ones written by others.

Not long until the identity of Mrs Doctor is revealed, will it be River?, or Romana? or even Captain Jack?

None of the above :wink1:
