2-4 Doctors? Man I can't think of a William Hartnell story that didn't bring a smile to my face. The Aztecs and The Meddling Monk are among my all time favorites.

I've only seen a couple of his stories and thought they were OK but not outstanding though with a few more stories I could perhaps get to like him a bit more and it'd be intresting to see a future incarnation with a similar kind of persona.

As for the others,

5th - Mediocre.
6th - Memorable only for his costume.
7th - Continued the decline in quality.
8th - Can't really comment on him.

Man..... You are hard fan. :lol

5 did have a few duds but on the whole I love his Doctor.
6 would have been a great doctor had the writing and production not started to take a nose dive.
7 was a great doctor but suffered from even worse production and writing.

Torchwood on BBC America makes me a sad panda. I wish it was being shown on HDNet again... :monkey2

And I agree with others, the specials would not be a good place to start watching Doctor Who. The best starting point for newbs would probably be when the new season starts next year.

Yeah but never let it be said that I leave anyone in any doubt exactly where I stand on issues :lol

I think maybe I would have been a bit more accepting of some of the other Classic Doctors had I started my DVD collection with any other story than "Genesis of the Daleks" which sets the bar pretty high as it's the best episode from the best era of the Classic series.

My favorite Davison story so far is "Earthshock" but the rest I've seen were kinda meh and didn't really leave much of an impression.

After a couple more 6 & 7 stories I might change my opnion of them somewhat and it's just a shame that there's only a limited amount of Hartnell and Troughton stories in existence as I'd really like to see more of both.

bcm77, you clearly have never seen Caves of Androzani. One of the all-time best episodes of Who. From the writing to the acting to the direction (Graham Howe who is also a Nu-Who director).

Definitely. Some of the greatest stories were lost. Very sad.:monkey2

BBC America FINALLY aired the christmas special. :banana and have advertised that the new Doctor series will air july 20th. It has been a long wait for me. Im so glad to finally be able to see the new season. :D:D

saw the special this morning I thought it was great, certainly a decent place for it to be someones first episode IMO.

That's actually top of my list for Davison stories to see though the next Classic DVD I get will likely be The War Games which comes out next month.

They likely meant they would air "The Dead Planet" on July 20. The new series (series 5) hasn't even started filming yet. Though I think the new Torchwood mini series starts airing on July 20.

Yeah, it's Planet of the Dead on july 26th.

is the chick from planet of the dead the chick from Jekyl and the Bionic woman...god she is so smoking hot.

Yes, it was the first Dalek story. :lol Also.. anyone else thinking we can fold this thread into the main Who thread now?

The main one has spoilers abound which is why I didn't post there. The Mike has said in this thread that this will be the first Who ep. he'll see, so let's not merge it for the time being.

Saw it last night, I almost missed the very last few minutes because the #@!* Dish network DVR didn't know to record an extra 20 minutes on the back end of it. Luckily I scheduled a new timer to record the last bit.
Overall it was pretty good, but I personally like the past Christmas specials more; the Christmas Invasion one was my favorite. Some of the special effects were a bit more shoddy in the Next Doctor then the normal eps., but at least they did the giant steampunk robot pretty well.

And for a new viewer, a lot of the humor and science (such as the Doctor's regeneration ability) at the beginning of this special, might go over their heads. It's best to start with the Series 1 DVDs imo.

The first episode of the new series I saw was Christmas Invasion and thats what got me hooked.
