Does buying Medicom figures make sense?

Is the paint really bad? Is that a common issue with medicom? Do the paint app's look cartoonish?

Depends what you mean by "bad" paint. As far as application goes, I've never had a Medi figure with a bad paint job and I've owned quite a few. If you mean style, they're never going to have "realistic" paint apps (like Hot Toys) because that is not their aesthetic. Medi paint apps are simple by design.

as far as I know the medi TDK batman is in scale with the HT's batman line and seems to match the HT in quality as well. but doesn't come with as many accessories. Then again, he is cheaper.

Yeh, I saw comparison pics and they look the same scale. Which makes me feel pretty ripped off about the TDK Original Suit version I got from medicom. It was so much cheaper than what the equivalent HT version is now fetching nowadays I thought the bargain basement price would make the boy-in-a-batsuit look tolerable.

But no. I had to stand him up on tippy toes inside his boots to make him not look utterly ridiculous next to my other figures. He still looks a bit odd, what with boots that don't come far enough up his leg, a a bit of a puny chest...

Why medicom, WHYYYYYYYYYYY :panic:

I can't see myself going near a medicom figure again except if theres a license I'm really interested in but Hot Toys has all those covered.

I bought their season 5 Jack Bauer, thankfully just to use his clothes on the Enterbay figure, because the body practically fell to pieces when I took it out of the box.

I've also got their Spiderman 3 figures - no breakages there yet but I don't think I should risk moving them. Those are otherwise OK figures but the Hot Toys ones, you just know, are going to totally outclass them in every conceivable way.

Stick with their anime figures and you'll do fine. Anime and cartoon based characters reap the benefits of Medicom's simple and sparse paint applications.

The only Medicom figure I've bought in 2 years was Kaneda Shotaro from Akira. Him and his bike, actually, but the bike was Project BM.

That makes it sound like Medicom have some exclusive ability in this area. The truth is Hot Toys could just as easily downgrade their paintjobs and kick Medicom's arse on anime figures too if they so chose.

O...kay, if that's the meaning that you gleaned from my previous post, then fine, but that's not what I was getting at. But since you brought it up, I don't agree that Hot Toys could do just as well and they don't do anywhere as often or with the same breadth and depth as Medicom's anime lines. Just because a likeness based on an animated character requires a less complicated painting/sculpting technique doesn't make it easier.

When was the last time HT did anime-based 1/6 figures? That would be the Appleseed: Ex Machina line from 2 years ago. Their one attempt at a female anime figure was a disappointment. I owned Deunan and Briareos. The final production-piece Deunan Knute had a vastly inferior paint job compared to the prototype.

I don't believe Hot Toys is on the same level as Medicom when it comes to animated figures. Medicom's been at it for much longer in this regard. It's also worth noting that anime is an intrinsicly Japanese medium, and Medicom is a Japanese company.

HT beats Medicom in practically every regard nowadays, but Medicom still has that one thing.

HT also did the golgo 13 figure, which was a japanese market exclusive if I remember correctly. I don't have the figure but from what I can see from the picture its also more or less sub par to what medicom makes. The accessories were cool, rifle, gun case, etc. But the crucial HS is just not there. Yes, it resembles the character, but if you actually compare to the source material there is a pretty big difference. Plus the price was pretty ridiculous as well (even more so than medi) if you bought that figure from japan. And yeah, Deunan's paint job were pretty terrible compare to the likes of medicom motoko.

Yeah the Golgo 13 figure was okay, but I agree with everything you said about it. If I had the money I'd buy it though. That's the problem about it, it's so limited and is barely an official release so the price is ridiculous.

Well then I'll stand corrected. I don't collect anime or cartoon based figures so you'd know better. Maybe it was ignorant of me to assume its an 'easier' thing to replicate in a 3D figure.

I find it hard to trust Medicom. I've so wanted to buy the SSJ Son Goku RAH for quite some time, but I usually read about the deteriorating rubber body and some joints and pegs getting broken :( Granted, the rubber body issue was more prevalent in the normal Son Goku figure, but I've also read some people seeing hairline cracks in the SSJ version as well :(

Medicom is the only one making Daft Punk figures, so I'm buying Medicom.

But I don't see myself getting anything else from them.

I'm also a huge Daft Punk fan and it's because of them I've gotten into "action figures"!

I've got just over 20 Hot Toy figs & 2 from Medicom, Hot Toys is the one which made me addictive to this hobby, they just seem to be made with so much passion & you can see that in there product. The 2 Medicoms figures I own is there Spiderman 3 fig which I wasn't to impressed with but there Kaneda I was, I know people say you can break them easily but I don't think there as bad as some say but I only own 2 so may be I was just lucky. Spidermans in the attic now but Kanedas still being displayed & even though how much I love HT I don't think I'd ever replace him with one of there's, cause I don't think he can be beat. So HT all the way with real life figures but what I can make out Medi rule anime Market, it will be interesting to see what Medicom & Enterbay can do together though because I personally think Enterbay are the only company who can threaten HT with the right licences & there nothing wrong with a bit of competion now is there.

Im sure I've posted in this thread multiple times, but no, it DOESNT make sense. I love my MGS Snake but I hate the fact that one leg is shorter than the other. Their price point is so high for virtually nothing, cheaply made bodies (from what I have heard they have gotten better), (the scale doesnt bother me at all TBH), but 460 for the Daft Punk pair? For what, nothing really, I mean at that price they should light up or have a turntable/dj set up or SOMETHING.

Maybe, in the case of the FMA guys it makes sense, due to the awesome reviews people on this forum have given them but thats about it . . .

Answer for anyone who isn't specifically into a certain niche license that only Medicom has is a thorough and comprehensive 'no'. Hot Toys owns 1/6th in every way. Its an objective, unbiased fact.

With even the hardcore Medikids passing because of their increasing (and in some cases blatantly obscene) prices, I'd say no... again. :lol

HT is king without a doubt however, I own a few Medicom which suits my needs. Scale and artistic liberty on their sculpts don't bother me, IMO the biggest issue with Medicom is inflated price.

I own Anakin, Maul, Vader, Luke, Han, C 3PO and R2 D2 which all except Vader were purchased well below retail and look amazing together. Personally hoping for a Leia, Ben and Chewie to round out the original cast.
