Dolls or Action figures?

It's the same, "oh let me put the hand like this, maybe if I tilt the head forward a little... Nice, wait, I don't like the way the cape is draping".

You're playing with your toys. I do it, everybody here does it, what's the big deal?

Imagine this:

X: Where's Freakino?
-Y: He's in his room, playing with his dolls.
-Freakino yells: I told you! I'm posing them, not playing with them, geez.... And they're called Action Figures!

How does that sound? Doesn't that just sound like bitter denial? :lol

Lmao! :lol

No, you're just trying hard to make it sound like we're playing "Barbie" with our action figures. I imagine PLAYING with them is more like this:

*clutches Batman action figure around his waist while holding Joker with the other hand*

"I'm going to stawp you Joker!1" *Pretends Batman action figure threw his Batarang at Joker action figure*

"You'll never stawp me Batz!1" *Has Joker escaping and then tosses him on the bed* "Aaaahahahahaha!"

And just to be clear on this, I don't see anything wrong with dolls or even playing with dolls, but in my opinion, these figures are not considered dolls. Just ridiculously detailed figures/ART that are also poseable. And I certainly wouldn't call these toys. If I caught a child with their sticky fingers on my expensive figures :monkey4

You guys are more than welcome to disagree with me but there it is. lol

Why don't we just call each individual doll/action figure/collectible/friend what it is, ie Captain America, Batman, General Grievous, etc. instead of worrying about a broad term that can be interpreted in many ways.

I don't particularly consider these dolls... but if they are, then they are high end collectible dolls. Doesn't that put them in their own category?

For example, I wouldn't refer to a piece of custom 1/6 art as a 'doll'. The term just seems too offhand, regardless of how close it is to the truth.

@edonian There's no difference between that and what I described though.

Play: To occupy oneself in an activity for amusement or recreation

Edit: I agree that they're not considered "dolls" because the different terms like "action figure" caught on, but they are.

They're not toys either? :lol I guess Toyark, Toynewsi, Toysrevil, Mwctoys, BBTS, Sideshowtoy and others are out of a job :lol

I will agree that some of these can be art though, since they involve sculpting, painting and overall amazing craftsmanship, but that doesn't take away the fact that they're dolls/toys. They're incredibly detailed, expensive, complexly engineered toys/dolls, which you play with.

Exactly, doll is the most general term possible, you say action figure because it's more specific, so do I.

Doll/toy doesn't detract from its value at all, it's just so very vague, it's like saying I'm eating food. :lol

Someone posted a pic of a naked doll with her lady bits on the forum recently. I am SOO tempted to ruin Solidus's thread by doing the same. :lol

The **** category in the OSW forum is a place I'm sure each of us has visited and thought, "yeah, I'm ready to take my hobby to the next level and buy custom punanis for my female figures of action"

Considering how discussion already took several circles, it'd be only appropriate for me to repeat myself:

Facts:

1. If a child can play with it - it's a doll
2. A doll doesn't have to be articulated or include natural materials
3. Figurines and statuettes can be considered dolls depending on various factors
4. Action figures are dolls

I guess we should call statues figurines then?
Technically yes, because a statue has to be around "life-size" in terms of scale.
Otherwise it's a statuette or figurine.

Come and play with it...
