I'm no stranger to the madness of certain games. I have an unusual TF2 hat worth a thousand dollars that in no way modifies my character, game, abilities, etc and is purely decoration. But I didn't pay cash for it. Having said that there are people who do in TF2 such as Mattie who's backpack is worth tens of thousands but with hundreds of items. And they all still have a resale value so you can get that money back.

I have never seen anything like this before :

The catch? Valve added a patch less than a week later that made it pretty much a common item. :lol

Valve loves to troll people who spend money on their old games. :lol

Tf2 and how much they are still making on it is probably a big part of the reason we aren't going to see Half-Life 3 anytime soon.

Why try something new and actually have to do work when you can make millions a year from a 10 year old game by simply implementing community made content.

What is the point in that though?
The games looks terrible anyway.
And why would a hat in a game be worth so much money.

Well the Courier I don't quite get the exact purpose since I don't play DOTA 2 but from what I've read and gathered it's essentially a way of making your backpack a cosmetic item thats kinda shiney. That's it.

As to the hats, well, TF2 players are insane.

There are thousands and thousands of unusual quality hats worth thousands of dollars and they sell everyday. I worked my way up from 2 keys over 3 years to a backpack worth about $1200 real money. I was offered $900 for my hat just last week. I see people gamble thousands regularly it's amazing.

These guys are wagering close to 10k on a purely luck based game within the game :

Common occurence. Lots to be made if you know what you're doing.

Google how much Valve made off tf2 in 2012 it will blow your mind and make GTA and Call of Duty game sales look adorable.

This thing is worth thousands :

Well I have the orange box on my Xbox and just thought it was like team death match.
So the better you get , you get different items?
And is any one item the same?

No it has nothing to do with being good. Tf2 is TDM, CTF, Push cart, man vs machine coop etc. You get random drops, you can trade or craft into metal to buy keys etc.

But the only way to get an unsuual worth thousands like that is to trade or unbox it from a mann co crate with a key, unusuals don't drop.

Yes there are millions of the same items. For example a backwards ballcap for scout is a hat that's as it states a backwards worn ballcap. A common one is like less than a dollar. An Unsusual quality one however could be anywhere from like $20 if the effect is crap like nuts and bolts to hundreds and hundreds of dollars if it's higher tier like a burning or cloudy moon.

My hat for example is an all class, meaning you can wear it on any character not just a demoman or spy only, and has a high tier green burning effect which is why it's valuable.

I just noticed you said Xbox, I don't think Valve hosts any content to consoles, only PC with Steam and the Steam market, community workshop etc.

Yeah, that's really silly.

On a side note I'm tired of trading and gonna buy lots of stuff in Mann shop as New Year's gift to myself :monkey2

Man I thought Baby Golden Roshans were bad... they only went for $5000. Saw some guy who had 4 of them (there's only 10 in existence).

EVERY ITEM in DOTA 2 is purely cosmetic, they do not effect gameplay at all... that would be a huge slight to its highly competitive nature.

....

DOTA 2 has a 89% gamerankings average. Not bad for a free to play game. Also the top game on Steam.

It's very highly regarded for its depth (deeper than 100% of any of the 60$ games we buy today), and the top team-based e-sports game at the moment.
