I just started playing, think im at level 6. But I'm not liking the battle mode, I hit 'x', but half the time my guy never attacks or wanders off. It makes me wanna stop playing but I can't. And then all the "abilities" I dont get. I'll stick with the game, hopefully I get the hang of it.

(It sounds like some you might want to invest in the game guide.
There are lots of layers of subtlety to this game if youre not digging into them youre handicapping yourself and your character.)

I had the same problem with my guy at the beginning:
Take one swipe at the guy and take off, very annoying.
Two possibilities:
1.You may need to adjust your "Tactics" default.
Make sure its set to aggressive not passive or defensive or "flees from effect area"
2.The character youre controlling isnt "locked" onto the target.
How can you tell? Look at the ground when paused and your cycling through targets.
You'll see a red circle on the ground at the base of each potential target. The one you are "locked" onto will blink.
If no targets are blinking youre not "locked" and he'll do his own thing.

Assign the different attacks your character can perform to your
buttons Ex: "Y" = Dual sweep
It always shows whats available at the bottom right.
Hit the "A" button for one attack then immediately follow up with the "B" button attack. Lather,Rinse,Repeat.

As far as "abilities" go: Many are "passive" and dont need activating, they are always on.
You can review all of any given characters traits and abilities at any time.
They will tell which are "passive"
Others you need to activate and will drain mana or will power.
Example for a mage: Spirit shield.
If you think there is a high probability that youre going to battle another mage or magic is going to be cast at you keep this on.
Example for Warrior: Dual Striking
If you have two edged weapons equipped this should be activated.
If you have a shield and sword in hand that ability shouldnt be on.
Get it?

Again, just to show you how deep and useful the Tactics menu is you can tell your characters when to use
given abilities, potions, weapons, and actions under any number of circumstances.

guys,in ps3 is it good??i mean is it a real rpg game,or an action one?>??

Indeed. How the hell can you beat her!? I got my ass whooped within seconds!
I was able to beat Flemith and just went back and killed the dragon on Mountain Top. My four main characters are lvls 17 & 18 and Leliana and my main character both have fire resistance over 70%. Add some warmth salves to that and it comes down to who can dps more; My tank uses Yusaris (+10 dragon damage) and Morrigan has +55% cold damage, as long as I keep her filled up with mana she can pump out insane damage.

I'm thinking about picking this game up, I'm just torn on which console to get it for, PS3 or 360. Are there any advantages/disadvantages to either. Does one looke better than the other or does one have specific content the other doesn't?

I bought this today for PC. Can't wait to get started. It'll probably be the only game I play during this festive month.

From what I've read, the PS3 version looks better than the 360 version, but it doesn't run as well. The PS3 game has higher res textures, but the framerate isn't quite as solid as on the 360 version. As far as I know, there aren't any bonuses exclusive to either platform at the moment.

I suggest the PC version if your rig can handle it. A game like Dragon Age just seems better suited for keyboard and mouse. Plus, you can zoom out on the action.

I would get it on PC but my PC plus I'm not really a PC gamer.

I hear the game is alot like Knights of the Old Republic in gameplay, is that true? Also do you create your own character as well?

I just picked this up and I always forget how long I take when making my character. I had to redo her (I always create a female character) twice because I accidentally hit back too many times and wiped out the work, and then when I finished it and started playing, I hated how pale she looked in natural light (damn the poor lighting in the customization screen).

Only played for about an hour and a half after all that tomfoolery was done, and this is DEFINITELY NOT the time to start an RPG like this for me... I have a final next week and 2 more in two weeks. >_<

I knew I should have resisted opening the game up.

Thanks for that, I changed my character to "aggressive", but still this game is "deep", probably have to play it 2nd time to get it right. I'm at level 8, but havent done and crafting or spell stuff. I just downloaded the prima guide, I'm sure that will help out.

I started as an Elf, I think Danish, the wooded ones. He's so dam short. But I started killing all the characters in the "story" mode, whenever it asks. Also been "stealing" alot of items from people in villages, got some good weapons but cant use them yet.

Anyone have this on 360? After reading various stories about the bad framerate drops on the PS3 version, I'm kinda leaning towards the 360 version now. Any major drops in frame rate that are really distracting?

to make things worse,i didnt find leliana in lothering and i have not a rogue in the party...right now,i have morrigan ,wynne and shale the golem...any suggestion???alistair is off ,and it is level 9 and i am 12 ...so it's difficult for him to follow us...

You'll get another chance at a rogue for your party later in the story.
But the beginning skills will be different.
How in the wide world of sports did you miss Leliana?
She adds alot.

It's not that hard to miss her. You might never enter the inn, or just decline her thinking she's a crazy ?????. Hell, I almost did that.:lol
