Pretty funny hearing people cancelling orders for this figure because 1 person gets (claims) oil from there figure.

So, Rory, The Boot, CollectorNC, King Darkness, schokolade, MR Regan and Master Wayne, how's that leaking? Is it still doing it? Better, worse, noticeable? Anything?

I have had paper under the belt, other in the box. I will have a look later. I decided early on not to take this too seriously, no point. Been here done that. Also i have a job. I was tempted to be the guinea pig and just leave it as it was to see what happens. But I just don't fancy dealing with all the ridiculous posts that will be thrown at me if it leaks again (The Mayor? Get outta here you ass).

:monkey4

I'm still waiting for that response Hot Toys sent you, unless I missed it in this crazy thread.:impatient:

Actually Mayor that is not pretty funny. There were plenty of funny things that have come up - (see "side points" section of my earlier post or Deakstalker can help you)

But since you said that, if yours should ever starts to leak it will be HILARIOUS ON AN EPIC SCALE!!!!!!!!

And yes".................................................... I hope it does

I just checked mine again (the second time since my initial discovery) and it's - just like last time - still dry.

Encouraging. :)

They told him (paraphrasing), "It shouldn't leak. But since it is, wipe it off." :monkey1

jeez ! i dont know what to make of all this . im not keen on checking my figure everyday for leaks . the thought of such a pricey item deteriorating over a short time , 5 or 10 years makes me real hesitant . its a real badass figure but what to do ? what do ? maybe ill just keep The Joker and bale on The Keaton Bats. i cant remember , was there a deposit the 89 Bats ?

So I finally got some info from my chemical engineer friend. I explained to him all about whats going on with this Batman and DX02. This is what he told me. Now remember, he is a chemical engineer for Stanley / Dewalt. So he is use to dealing rubber and production issues.

First, it should have nothing to do with the plastic/belt. The only way direct contact with hands, plastic, etc, would leave any residual on the rubber is if the rubber was breaking down from age.

Second, manufacturing could be an issue if the rubber didn't set properly. But in his opinion, there is no way a large company like HT would allow this. Remember, he is looking at this from a scientific point of view only. HE NO EMOTIONAL TIES TO HOT TOYS LIKE WE DO.

Finally, he said with 95% certainty, it is the lubricant that is causing this leakage. He uses the same process to fit rubber onto tools and such. And they too experience leakage.

He said that he was surprised the whatever lubricant they use to put the suit on would cause any deterioration of the rubber. If that were the case, the entire suit would break down from the moment the made contact with each other. He added that exposure to extreme tempuratures would more likely be the cause of the rubber breaking down. And that once the extreme tempuratures cause the breakdown to start, the residue or leakage wouldn't help the situation.

Thats it. It makes sense to me since its only a minority of pieces this happens to.

I hope this helps some. My friend said Many Bothans died to bring us this information! :wave

How did you get the cape like that? Looks so heavy and natural.

Who cares what The Mayor says. Put him on ignore.

Most of us want to know what is really happening with this figure, and right now you are the most qualified to answer that. :)

First of all, thank you for doing that leg-work and sharing the input. We need more posts from people with some real life manufacturing experience.

I tend to agree that it has nothing to do with the belt in terms of chemical reaction. i.e. the rubber isn't reacting to the plastic. However, I don't think it's a coincidence that the oil (or whatever that liquid is) is appearing there. I believe the pressure from the belt literally squeezes the liquid out there.

:lol IMO he greatly overestimates the integrity of 'large companies'.

I think that, at least in the case of the DX02 it was in fact the rubber breaking down. That's why I'm not sure "oil" is the right word. But it seems pretty clear that some part of the rubber compound was seeping out. Others have mentioned that this could be due to the rubber not setting properly as your friend said.

I think some people may indeed be seeing lubricant from the process of slipping the body into the suit. But cases like that would be - 'I wiped it off and it never appeared again'. It remains to be seen how often (if at all) that has been the case. People really need to keep us all posted on how the issue is progressing in their case. :lecture

I agree that the lubricant would not itself break down the rubber. That wouldn't make any sense. Hot Toy's cutting corners in the curing process makes sense to me, but using a lubricant that breaks down rubber doesn't.

The extreme temperatures theory was thoroughly debunked in the DX02 leak thread.

Mine is still ok so far too. But I'll keep an eye on it. And it was no problem getting this info for me. Of course when my friend consulted his colleagues regarding some issues with RUBBERS and OILS and LEAKAGE, I am sure we can all image the ribbing that ensued!:lol

:lecture:lecture:lecture :exactly:

Excess lubricant wouldn't return once wiped away. The figures leak consistently and continually even after wiping. :huh
