Since it works with just PayPal as well, I can see it being a benefit to people who work with custom artists.
 
I haven't looked at the details yet to see how the feedback has been altered, but one benefit of masking auction details is that you don't have to keep multiple eBay ids, one for selling and one for buying. You may still need multiple ids for selling different things if you don't or can't have your different items or types of items listed together.

I just checked and the differences are a little more specific. Item details are completely hidden when you look at someone's BUYING feedback - as I think it should be. The seller's name is full displayed in this case - I think that should be hidden too. I don't think anyone should be able to check what I buy nor from whom I buy it. In other words, buying history should be completely opaque to everyone else other than the rating. POssibly show comments only for non-positive transactions.

Selling feedback still lists the item name and number along with a link to the auction, but it obscures the name of the buyer. This is fine. I agree that people should not be able to see the buyers of other people's auctions - privacy. It also prevents targeting buyers.
