Just been reading through this thread...and it's funny how people kept justifying SS's reluctance to complete the fellowship in PF form because "they can't make product for a handful of collector's",and how they "can't keep on churning out product when no-one's buying".

mmmmm....funny that,as EVERY SINGLE MEMBER of the fellowship in PF sold out...and that's BOTH the exclusive and regulars OF EVERY CHARACTER......what does that tell you? What's the excuse now???

True......but some PFs like Frodo and Legolas took a couple of years to finally sell out.
I understand people's frustration about getting a complete Fellowship in one form or another (believe me, I would have been waist-high in sour grapes if the Dark Rider PF that was first teased years ago had been tossed aside and never released.:lol) but as it's been said before, SSC is a business and they are there to make a profit. LOTR just doesn't have the rabid fan base of Marvel or SW (again nothing new) where they have the luxury of making a statue of Peter Parker's Dentist and people would still buy it. Basically you have a swimming pool's worth of LOTR collectors in an ocean's worth of Star Wars and Marvel collectors.
I don't believe SS is really at fault here, because unfortunately there have been plenty of opportunities to justify more PF Fellowship members and the messsage arrived loud and clear - human(ish) heroes just don't sell as well as creatures/non-human/villains. Does anyone honestly think a PF of say Denethor or Eomer have a snowball's chance in hell of flying off the shelves?:dunno I think not and that's what it's all about.
Now, that being said, I do fault SSC if they don't make good on their promise of completing the Fellowship in the Maquette line. Especially being so close to the finish with only Merry and Pippin remaining. I don't recall any promises being made in terms of the PF line though.
I just don't get all the negativity towards SS lately - they've cranked out some major home runs in the last few years and now we have Weta back in the game full swing which is a huge plus IMO because Middle-Earth is their SW and Marvel lines.
I don't support any one company and I'm not a completist in any line, I just buy what interests me. So as long as there is a least one company making quality LOTR/Middle-Earth items I consider myself lucky.

I agree with your initial comment...but your second one is a bit misleading. I don't think anyone is doubting the quality coming out of SSC (although lately some folks are starting to wonder). I think the majority of the NEGATIVE comments are simply SSC's complete LACK of communications with ANYONE either on the boards, at shows, or whatever.

With all the negative talk, all they would have to do is send some official news about what is going on...legal, dead lines, whatever!

You make some good points NK and I agree with some of the things you said....I for one certainly don't expect a Denethor or an Eomer PF,obviously that wouldn't be in their best interests as far as financial gain (although I would love them both though :wink1:).

But as far as the Frodo and Legolas...they may have taken a while but (in the case of Frodo) I'm not surprised!! They badly messed up the paint apps on that one (in fact,it's the worst paint job on any PF I've seen personally),so that won't exactly have helped the thing fly out of the warehouse would it?! :slap If that had a better likeness of Elijah,it would of flown out! Not to mention the negative response to this relative failure I believe will of killed a lot of interest/momentum the PF line had gained with the success of Lurtz :lecture

As far as the Legolas,I honestly don't know why some people have a negative opinion of it..I think it's absolutely gorgeous and definitely one of my favourites :clap but anyway,I digress...

But I am certainly not complaining with what I have got...I love my DROM and I CANNOT WAIT for Sauron to hit!!!

I don't know about misleading, I wasn't really talking about SS's lack of communication 'cause that's a whole different conversation.:lol I agree that it makes no sense why they have to be so cryptic when answering simple yes or no questions.
Then you have Weta who are the complete opposite and regularly interact with their fans which is great. Every company is different though and few go out their way like Weta does, so when SS side steps questions and provides wordy answers without really answering anything it doesn't really surprise me.:dunno
Like I said, I don't have any horse in this race and I'll gladly hand my money over to whoever is worthy of it. It's nothing personal it's just business.

That's the thing though, even when they succeed it still doesn't fly out the doors. I personally didn't think Frodo was all that bad, it just wasn't for my collection. Gandalf The Grey (reg) sat in stock for quite a while and that was one of the best PFs - period.

And I'm right there with you waiting for Sauron!

They may've taken awhile, but they did sell out.

There are still SW and Marvel pieces that they can't seem to get rid of. You'll have that in all lines.

Gimli and Boromir in PF form would be good sellers. I agree with Denethor and some of the others not being wise choices though.

But when a SW or Marvel piece fails, another 20 appear and take their place. :lol
