I've heard so many good things about this movie, but never took the time to watch it.

I'm not really a fan of the two main characters, but I might just give it a go.

Just watched End of Watch again and I'm more than confident that this is my film of 2012 as well.

There has never been a film this good that can represent the bond between two characters so well (also in real life).

David Ayer brings a truthful and realistic view into the LAPD and the meaning of to protect and serve with their brothers and sisters.

:clap

The relationship between Gyllenhaal and Pena is something special here. Their display of loyalty and love for one another feels so real! The fact they spent day in and day out with each other for 5 months to prepare for a 21 day shoot says it all. The attention to detail from Ayers is uncompromising.

I think Ayers gives us a very real look into the daily life of a south central L.A. police officer whilst adding a very entertaining but subtle story arc.

I couldn't agree more bud...

What did you think of Taylor's speech (or lack thereof) at Zavala's funeral? I thought that it was all that needed to be said and was one of the most powerful moments in the film. I'm not ashamed to admit it but I cried.

Absolutely! Nothing more needed to be said, it was perfect!!! The hurt was evident and thus preventing him saying anything further.

I thought so too... I loved the "day of the shooting" segment right after the funeral with Zavala telling Taylor the story about his wife's parents and them saying "let's go fight some crime or something" and then pounding fists. Truly amazing!

You're in the UK right? Did End of Watch just come out in theatres?

Yes I loved that segment also! Truly perfect, I wouldn't expect anything less from Ayers!

Yes I am in the UK and this was released last Friday here. I went Friday and Sunday and possibly going again tonight to see it :)

Just finished watching this.

I was pleasantly by how much I actually enjoyed this! Both actors were amazing, and their friendship was so believable. I didn't even mind the nearly non-stop hand-held camera. This was such an intense cop thriller, a worthy contender for Best Film of 2012.

I was shocked to find out that Taylor survived at the end. I thought for sure that both of them died. His speech at the end was heartbreaking.

Glad you loved it duder :rock2

That ending is something eh? The chemistry between Gyllenhaal and Pena is incomparable imo.

Absolutely! I'll probably go see it again tomorrow.

I recently saw Gyllenhaal on the Graham Norton show and while discussing the movie, he mentioned that they trained for 5 months to get into character. :horror

I thought that Taylor was going to give an hour long speech at the funeral, but that one line was powerful enough. So sad.

Yes it is really interesting to hear how hardcore they went to get into character and to also build on that relationship.

They lived in one anothers pockets for 5 months beforehand to shoot for 21 days only

You guys have got me very curious about this. I'd be lying if I said it doesn't look like dog **** from everything I've seen on it though.

I just hope you can watch this now without our hype compromising it in anyway.

I know the only criticism I have really heard about this movie is the camera work, 'the lost footage' approach. I personally could not disagree anymore. I think the camera work added to the intensity and realism. It was the finishing touch to Gyllenhaal and Pena's realtionship.

I personally didn't go along with 'the lost footage' idea. That was far from my interpretation. I actually seen it as a ride along :dunno

Gyllenhaal and Pena went on ride alongs every day for 5 months before shooting and I am sure this is the perspective Ayers wanted for us :dunno

It's funny how films can just have a totally different reception over seas.

It got good reviews...but it was mostly a dump movie. Something to throw in near the end of September to make some money. It did end up doing OK, but I never heard much from it.

You guys are just going ape**** over it. :lol Which I find interesting. We get too many of these gritty crime dramas here, that I had very little interest for it. And still do. I'll check it out on Netflix though.

Finally saw this over the weekend... thoroughly enjoyed it. Riveting and compelling, the action & story were great. The clear bond/chemistry between the leads was so convincing, I was totally engrossed...felt like a ride along that I didn't want to end.
