This was *finally* released to the US. Anybody get it? Thoughts? It's in my Netflix queue, but I'm waiting for Blu-Ray before I purchase.

I didn't know it was released yet, gonna add it to my queue and check it out. I know not everyone likes Evangelion, but I loved it, so I'm anxious to see it.

The U.S. dvd that came out this week (1.01) has reported issues of washed out color and an overall darker tone to the video.

There's a remastered version, labeled "1.11" coming out in March 2010 on dvd/blu ray. Also, rumor is that it will contain a slightly longer cut. I'd suggest waiting for that version. That's what I'm doing. Considering how long it will take for the entire Rebuild of Eva movie series to finish, I can wait for the first one. Also, I've already watched Evangelion 1.0 at a convention last year, so I'm good for now.

Read about it here: https://www.amazon.com/Sorry-sale-u...t_tp?_encoding=UTF8&asin=B002KYIAJ2&store=dvd

Or google Evangelion 1.11

Neon Genesis Evangelion is my favorite work of art in all of human history. I thought it was 99.9% perfect. I'm curious about this, but I have to decide first if seeing it will mess with my love for the original.

This was the only Anime that I ever actually liked. What is this movie?

Same here. I really don't get into Anime, but Eva is an incredible epic and probably one of the most important pieces of art from the 20th century.

This movie is part one of a retelling of the series. I think this covers episodes 1-6, but I could be wrong. From what I understand, this movie is just those episodes recut and sometimes reanimated to make a movie. The next part supposedly differs from the original drastically, but I'm not sure how.

devilof76 - I wouldn't worry too much about it, even considering your devotion to the original. Just think of it as a separate entity altogether. We already kind of have to do that with the show's ending. ie: Which is your ending: Rebirth and End of Eva or the way the show ended?

They say art is never complete, only abandoned. I think as long as Hideaki Anno draws breath, we'll see further tinkering, for better or worse.

Put simply, it's a series of four films that will re-imagine the Evangelion story. There will be new characters introduced, the story will be streamlined for easier comprehension, and the creators will take advantage of a substantial animation budget that was not available to them during the original series' run (so the new movies will look a lot better).

If one wants to look at this Rebuild project pessimistically, then it's another way for them to milk the Evangelion franchise. I mean, the name Evangelion has been relevant years and years after the original series ended, but now it's in the front again.

I've already seen Rebuild of Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone, and it feels like a tighter, more upbeat experience than the original episodes.

Both. I look at the original ending as the internal events and The End of Evangelion as the external.

I am approaching it as a separate entity. It still makes me itch. I'm worried he may have sacrificed the complexity of the original. That was one of it's virtues.

I'm being lazy though. I can get over it. Curiosity will get the best of me because I know there's a chance I could get lucky and like it. It might even clarify some of the original now that he's had so much time to think about it.

1.0 is mostly the same as the original anime, with minor changes here n there and yeah, Shinji is definitely less whiney.

I just watched 2.0 last week and it was mind blowing awesomeness!
Sorry, but words just can't describe what I felt about 2.0. 2.0 had major changes to the original storyline and mostly for the better, the animation is just top notch.

Can't wait for 3.0 and 4.0!

Thanks for the heads up on the US dvd release. I'll wait for the 1.11 release in March to get an "official" version since I've had a damn good fansub on dvd which was released about a year ago. Rebuild of Evangelion 1.0 is remarkable. As a diehard fan of this series since it was first released on VHS back in the middle to late nineties (and several thousand dollars worth of models, figures, toys, books and DVDs related to this epic series later) I can honestly say after much suspicion that Rebuild is everything I could have wanted in an Eva film. And for all fans out there. Don't worry. Part one may have covered a lot of the same ground from the first five or six episodes, but 2.0 is the game changer. Everything changes. This is not the same story we watched in the series and in the Death and Rebirth/End of Evangelion films. Anno is slowly but surely creating a new story. That's my two cents.

Next Tuesday is going to be a great day with FF XIII and Evangelion 1.11 to pick up.
I'm wondering when 2.22 is going to be released though. It has the most changes so far and adds a new character to the mix. Plus we get to see the redesigned units!

I've been collecting EVA since the original DVDs came out, one by one. Eventually they had them all released in one black box. Fortunately for me I was able to buy said box on its own. Can you believe I spent $40 on a box I had to glue together myself?

I was pretty peeved when the Platinum collection came out a while later. I bought the first two but stopped after that. Just last year my girlfriend got me the Platinum Perfect Collection and I was high on EVA nostalgia, so I decided to buy some EVA revoltechs at the Fan Expo in Toronto. I can't believe it's been about 10 years since I started collecting EVA. I was 13 at that time!

Picked up the blu-ray today. I thought this wouldn't fly off shelves that quickly but the copy I got was the last one.

I later found out that it was sold out all over my area. Limited copies perhaps?
