I recently got into reading the original G1 Marvel Comics run. There are some really great stories in there. I am only on issue 23 right now, but damn I love these comics. It would be pretty sweet if Hasbro would make some direct to DVD animated movies based on some of these stories.

and being that Jetfire's name in the G1 cartoon was Skyfire, it is most certainly dealing with the G1 cartoon and style. therefore you cannot ignore it.
