*cue music intro: Wagner's "Siegfried's Funeral March"*

"The Dark Ages

The land was divided and without a King

Out of those lost centuries rose a legend...

Of the sorcerer, Merlin,
Of the coming of a King,

Of the Sword of Power

EXCALIBUR"

The question is: would you like to see 1/6 scale figures of King Arthur and his Knights (and Uther and Cornwall as well, of course, and Igrayne and Guinevere, and Merlin)? And if yes, who do you think would be best for this epic effort?

I vote yes, of course.
And my dream company would obviously be Hot Toys, based on their work on the armor of the Colonial Marines, their fantastic attention to detail and their great work on likeness (POTC).
A very close second for me would be SST. Although we haven't seen any work on armor from them, their latest SW releases are fantastic and I see them improving constantly.
Third would be Medicom, simply because we know they kick all kinds of butt with their armored Stormtroopers. Pricing would be prohibitive though.

A couple of interesting companies would be DID and Ignite. DID make fantastic WWII figures and have also ventured into Samurai, but at a very high cost (beyond the means of mere mortals like myself). Ignite's Knights and Romans can look very cool with a bit of futzing and customizing, but the base figure kinda sucks.

So which Knights and characters would I like to see?

Arthur (the dark, pre-round table armor could be an exclusive).
Lancelot in all his sparkly, shiny glory.
Leondegrance
Uryens
Perceval
Gawain
Mordred (not sure, his armor looked kinda silly)
Uther
Cornwall

Merlin
Morgana
Guinevere
Igrayne

These figures would quite simply blow everything else away and rule the world.
Swords would have to be metal, of course, like Ignite's.

Would they be cool as hell? Yes. Would I buy even one of them? Hells no. Not with everything else I have to buy.

I'm sure Sideshow could rock the house with this franchise, though.

They would be cool...and expensive. I'm not sure I'd be willing to shell out that much dough.

YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES!

Oh...did I say....

Yes... :monkey3

I want them all. Hot Toys, please commence making them, please.
Thank you. Drive through. :D

(Great thread Abake! I knew you had it in you!)

I mean, who wouldn't want a Merlin?

"A dream to some...

A NIGHTMARE TO OTHERS!"
:rock2

He could teach whatshisnose Gandalf a thing or two.

This is actually my favorite movie, #1, in a league of its own! So yes, I'd love to see some 1/6 love for it.

Will it happen, prolly not... but I'd be stoked if it did. One thing that surprises me is no one has ever made a replica of Excalibur from this film, seems like a no-brainer?!?

And just to keep things going...

I'm not sure if anyone here is old enough to remember the original Excalibur trailer, but I have seen it on the DVD, and let me tell you, it is atrocious.
To say it does the movie no justice is an understatement of epic proportions.

Fortunately, the boys over at HiDef.com have put things right:

Not bad for a movie that was released 27 years ago.

Weren't you looking for one awhile ago? I take it you didn't have any luck finding one.

Yep, that was me... all the Excalibur swords I can find are more ornate and look ridiculous. Too bad, but I'm still hopeful someone will make one someday :monkey2

Oddly enough, when it was first released, that trailer had me hooked. :lol Trailers have come a long, long way since then.

I love this movie... :rock

...so yes I'd buy figures from it.

IMO it is one of THE most underrated movies of all time.

I totally agree. The cinematography alone is amazing. I was lucky enough to see it when it was in the theaters a hundred years ago. It's always been one of my favorites.

A brilliant movie. My favorite "knights" movie I think. If I get some time to financially recover after all these great new figures Hot Toys and Medicom have released, or is about too release, I'd gladly buy some EXCALIBOUR 12" figures. I say!

Hmm... no. How about: "The Liquid sky", or "Eraserhead" or "Tetsuo, Iron man", or "Tetsuo II, Body Hammer, or "American Werewolf in London" or "Altered States", or "Demon Seed", or "Logan's Run" or ... Point is, so many fantastic movies out there that didn't get enough attention.

In fact, I just saw a documentary on "Z Channel". A real eye opener. Since it was an American pay cable company, I had never heard of it, but I am sure that it did great things for movie lovers in America.

I too remember seeing this in the theater but that doesn't mean I'm old. :lol
