Logan's Run did not suck, its no Excalibur, but I'd buy figures from it.

But back on track, Excalibur seriously kicks a lot of ass! I would love to have Merlin, I think he's never been played better than by Nicol Williamson :rock

"A dream to some, a nightmare to others!!!"

Yep, he was a great combination of serious, intimidating and drole. I think the cast was very well put together and they worked well. And not to mention you had Patrick Stewart and Lian Neesson to boot!

This would be awesome. If I ever came into money this is one of the first things I would do, pay someone to create a whole set of Excalibur figures. The only merchandise I have ever come across from this movie is a couple of garage kits, Merlin and Modred. I have the Merlin, but haven't gotten around to having it painted yet. Always wanted to get the Modred, but haven't seen one in some time. With the advances that have been made in chroming plastic these figures could look fantastic. Here is a pic I found on another site of the Merlin. Couldn't find anything on the Modred.

Who said Logan's Run sucks?! I WILL FIGHT YOU!!!!!!!!!!! :cuss

And yes, I could go for Arthur and Merlin figurers.

Sign me up yesterday for Excalibur figures. This movie takes the Arthur Legend and shows why it is such a powerful story.
In my opinion nothing compares to it, not First Knight, not King Arthur, not even Last Legion. It would be like comparing Batman Begins to the 60's Batman movie. The scope, the mythology, the magic, it has everything from King Uther Pendragon to the Sword in the Stone to Lancelot and the Lady in the Lake to the Quest for the Holy Grail. It really makes me wonder when it will come out on Blue Ray.

This has me hyped, I just have two questions:

"Are you the mother and father of the baby now, Merlin?"

"What is the secret of the Grail, who does it serve?"

Couldn't have said it better myself Piccolo, no Arthruian movie (at least that I've seen) even comes close to it.

BTW, in the DVD copy I have I noticed that the dialog between Merlin and Morgana during Arthur's wedding is different than I remembered. I remember first watching it and during the wedding scene Merlin asks Morgana her to see the future; first she predicts the castle of silver and gold, he then tells her she has "to do better and than that", then she predicts that the queen will betray Arthur.

But for some reason her talking about the betrayal is missing from the DVD copy I have. I'm almost 100% positive that the line was originally present, and it seems like an odd one to edit out. Just wondered if anyone else noticed that, or if maybe I got a cheap copy :lol

There are 3 versions of the film, a 3 hour version that was lost, an original "R" rated version with more sex and violence(yes, please). There was finally a "PG" version that I believe is more readily available. Maybe you saw one but own another.
I too remember the scene where Morgana predicts the rise and fall of King Arthur, I mean it is a tragedy, but have seen other cuts with different dialogue.

You know I think I saw a really long version of it at a convention years ago (and it was probably 10 years after it was released), but I own the R 140 minute version. And at one point A&E used to play it a lot, I think it had that line as well.

Hmmm... so is the "lost" 3 hour version really lost? I would love to have that :monkey2

From what I understand they made some cuts to the film to make it the R rated version at 140 mins. The parts that were cut out of the 3 hour version where lost, so some parts of it do still exist.

Interesting, well maybe one day we'll see the longer version. Glad this thread was started... I love thinking about this movie :rock

I'll have to give a watch tomorrow.

... All ot those movies sucked :monkey3...except Werewolf which never has been underrated. It got 4 star reviews. How could it be underrated????:confused:

Thank you for pointing it out again: sometimes, it's just a matter of taste. :D

"Underrated" is a very broad term, I suppose. It's easy to put 'stars' on a movie. People do it all the time, for the most divergent reasons: politics, money, friedship... . I just know that many films don't get the attention they deserve, and that's more or less the synopsis of the word 'underrated' for me.

An important film critic once rated Bernardo Bertolucci's 1976 movie "Novecento" (or "1900" as it was called in some countries) as a catastrophe. Little did it matter to her that she saw the movie in a shortened 2 hour version, as it was released in that year. When she saw the film again, about 10 years later in it's full 5 hour glory (it was re-released as a directors cut), she rated it one of the centuries 10 best films.

This should be fun for Excalibur fans:

"Morgana: Don't you know me, Lord Merlin?

Merlin: Morgana of Cornwall. You have your father's eyes. I remember you.

Morgana: When my brother, Arthur, was born you came and took him away.

Merlin: And now you leave his wedding.

Morgana: Because I am a creature like you.

Merlin: What is the stone that burns?

Morgana: Sulphur. To mix with mercury.

Merlin: What is that root?

Morgana: Mandrake. The essence of it can prolong the act of love.

Merlin: And if too much is taken?

Morgana: Pain and death.

Merlin: That's it. Oh, you do know something of the Art.
Do you have the Sight? Do you see the future?

Morgana: Sometimes, I dream of things that come to pass.

Merlin: Look now. What do you see? What will be?

Morgana: I see a castle of silver and gold. Up there.

Merlin: That plan is well-known. You'll have to do better than that.
It is a lonely way, you know.
The way of the necromancer.
Yes, to know too much... lacrimae mundi... the tears of the world.

Morgana: But the power? The joy?

Merlin: Moments. Fleeting moments.

Morgana: I can ease your loneliness. Let me help you. Teach me.

Merlin: The days of our kind are numbered. The one God comes to drive out
the many gods. The spirits of wood and stream... grow silent.
It's the way of things. Yes.
It's a time for men and their ways."

I can't remember Morgana's prediction of the Arthur's downfall, though.
Not too sure about who says what on some parts, but I think I got it right...

Its right after this line here:

Merlin: That plan is well-known. You'll have to do better than that.

Morgana then predicts the betrayal of Arthur by Guenevere. But like I said, in the DVD that line is missing.
