I honestly never had much interest in seeing the straight laced, good guy version of the character. He was far more interesting as a villain (or just as a cranky Starfleet captain like we originally thought he was).
Kirk, Uhura, Spock, Sulu, and others all had great villainous Mirror U. counterparts (some impersonating) yet were all interesting in their own Prime Earth persona too, not just " straight laced" as you suggest. So not sure why anyone (other than lack of imagination) would default a Prime Lorca to just that?
While Prime Lorca would yes likely be a charismatic, moral, headstrong survivor, he'd also now be furthered by circumstance toward more an anti-hero.
The whole point being how adapting and surviving in the Mirror U. Terran Empire, would affect or change him, what extremes he might justify or need to go, to survive without losing his own humanity.
If done well, could be an interesting role for Isaacs to pursue, especially if he's interested in reviving the character.

And if set during SNW, now played against Pike, who might have his own expectations of him.
Yeah, but the contrast would be great! Star Fleet straight lace, vs. anything goes Gabriel!
Absolutely.
Just "straight lace" isn't surviving the Mirror U, done right, obviously would be much more to Prime Lorca's character.

FYI love the photoshopped Lorca image, it'd be fantastic if he returned with goatee. :wink1:

So, with Discovery wrapping up and only the two most obvious figures being done so far, it makes me wonder who would be a "must get" for anyone from Discovery. I figure the most likely upcoming figures (besides Georgiou) are as follows:
Tilly
Stamets
Book
Ash
Lorca
Culber
I'd probably get all to compete the crew. But others I'd want are:
L'Rell
Admiral Vance
Admiral Cornwell

Any thing I'm missing?

Detmer and Jet Reno would be my top picks, but unfortunately there's a less than zero percent chance we'll see any other figures made from this show.

You don't think we'll see any? It looked like he was prepping to make Lorca. He's still doing a Disco-specific Pike.
I'd be disappointed if we don't see any more.

Well yeah the Emperor is a definite release, but I was thinking more of the actual Discovery crew. I'd love a Lorca and the proto sculpt was amazing, but I never got the sense it was actually going to be produced.

Despite the pledge to do all the poster crews, probably the ONLY thing in favor of getting the rest of the Disco crew is the fact that Nanjin likes the show. Even then, he's probably going to have to figure out how much money he's going to lose making them. I just can't see any other figures from the show even breaking even, much less making money

No business go Into Business knowing they will lose money. Give credit where credit is due, it is all his money and he is all in on many characters that might never sell well.

If you look at some of the EXO line, they are still some stock left on many old released figures.

Some of it, I'm sure, is dictated by Paramount. QMX had prototype displays for Prime Georgiou and Burnham, after all. And they supposedly had no plans to do anything beyond TOS and TNG.

Yeah I'm sure if he had his way, he would have loved to produce more figures from the show. But even he has his limits, and as much as he's not doing this for the money, the project still has to be self-sustaining and can't have too many figures that aren't selling.

I'll say it. Discovery sucks.
The bridge crew? What bridge crew? Those people with like 2 lines total that nobody remembers the name of? With absolutely zero character development or character?

They killed that blue robot lady and treated it as a big deal but we had never actually properly got to know her.
Micheal was going "I love you guys!" to bridge crew no body formed a connection with and few can remember their names. Because the literally pretty much do nothing.

If Michael and Saru have trouble selling to justify them, the rest of the "who the fudge are they?" crew would sell about 5 each.

Strange New Worlds improves this and has characters with character! I know their NAMES of all things. They each get EPISODES! They are not IGNORED!
Pike was one of the few good things to come out of the show. I kind of liked Lorca but he's gone. Some characters are decent but let's not pretend that bridge crew isn't the focus of the show and is good. The show focuses elsewhere.

I literally can't name many of them because they're so irrelevant.
Airam or something is the dumb blue person who we never formed a connection with and were somehow supposed to care died.
Detmer? Her character is she got injured and blamed Michael and is now over it. That's it.

Uuurghhh don't remember the other names of all the one line people... Ignoring the actual main characters like Stamets, the doc who ain't here. That dumb cat (geeze). Etc.

If some of those basically nameless characters get made, it's because Nanjin is being nice and deciding he doesn't some money. Maybe all of them if the ratings rumors for Discovery are true.... Seems for the later seasons someone at Paramount decided money wasn't important when not cancelling the show earlier :p. Probably due to it's ties to Paramount +.

These three are pretty much the only ones I'd buy of those pictured. I already have Saru and Burnham.
If TOS had a Big 4 of Kirk, Spock, McCoy and Scotty, DSC's Big 4 would be Burnham, Saru, Tilly and Stamets. I'd get Detmer because, of the others pictured there, she has the most character development and the coolest look.

It's funny, that picture with everyone holding hands kind of exemplifies the biggest aspect of what I dislike about DSC: They're so touchy-feely. I can't even imagine a TNG cast photo where they hold hands like that.

I LOVED Discovery! But even I have to agree with some of those points. I found the serialized plot captivating at least through season 2, bit of a dip in season 3, recapturing some of the magic in season 4.

The issue I have with Discovery haters is that most of the criticism seems to flow from the idea that the show doesn't resemble the other ST iterations we love so well enough for them. I think that's a weak charge.

The show is admittedly very focused on Burnham's personal journey and that focus definitely takes the ensemble rapport of the bridge crew feature down a peg or two, but there was still plenty of that for me with Saru and Burnham, Stamets and Culber, Jett Reno with EVERYONE, lol! (you can look up who that is, @StarDude), Tilly coming of age and finding herself, Detmer sitting at her station looking sexy....

Yes, it's different, but different isn't necessarily bad. People also had a big problem with inventing a sister for Spock, and I was as skeptical about that as anyone. But I thought it worked very well. Their dynamic made perfect sense, and seeing them work through their relationship was an interesting and worthy change of pace, and I didn't feel that it diminished the character of Spock in any way. If anything it fleshed him out that much more.

Bottom line in my view is that if you came into the show thinking "Ok, let's see what WOKE trash Kutrzman is going to push on us this week", then yeah, you're going to find a way to dislike everything you see. But even coming from a decidedly more conservative vantage point, I loved it.

All that said, whether I happen to agree with the sentiment or not, I seem to be in a super-minority in this view if we judge by internet rantings (and apparently some ratings as well). That's ok too. We all consume our art/entertainment in ways that connect to us personally. That is just the nature of the beast. But I would prefer if people simply said, the show didn't work for me as well as the others instead of trying to PROVE the show sucks by citing idiocy like "Burnham cries too much". Please.... I can't find a single example of Sonequa making the choice to be emotional in any scene where that wasn't the fully appropriate response. Or that Burnham is a super hero who can do everything, and everything perfectly. As if James T. Kirk didn't have the same quality.

But I digress....

If EXO gambles and puts out a Lorca figure in his bridge uniform, that's a day one preorder for me. And I'd also pick up Tilly, Stamets, and Detmer to display with Saru and Burnham. If they went any deeper then possibly Capt Giorgio, and Ash Tyler. But those are maybes only and that's as far as I would go even being a big fan of the show. So given the reception of the show, I think EXO would definitely be gambling on a wide release. I guess we'll see.

I don't think that they are going to be making more than 3 more Discovery figures.

Georgiou
Pike, which he still seems to be working on.
and Captain Burnham for the captains line.

I like Discovery but the bridge crew are glorified background extras. It was only in the last season that they started putting the spotlight on some of them, but at this point it's too little, too late.
