I can understand some frustration if Nanjin says/hints/teases a figure is imminent and then changes his mind due to whatever reason. That's business, but perhaps he should tease less.

The TMP trio do look fantastic though. Looking forward to getting them whenever. I have Nanjin's original TWOK trio, so will look great in the display.

I don’t really understand all the saltiness about these TMP figures either. I ordered figures from Hot Toys nearly 3 years ago that still haven’t shipped—TMP figures announced earlier this year shipping at the end of the same year is like a freaking miracle. These are the best turnaround times for 1/6 figures I’ve ever seen in my life.

So todays story is Kirk is not ready. Paramount s approval no longer the current issue. Apparently some part of Kirk has been outsourced to another company who are (surprisingly ?) late.
What happened to EXO-6 being an in-house project ?

That's not today's news, that's old news. Nanjin stated a while back that delays are happening because of outsourcing. He specifically mentioned, Seven, TMP Spock, and one other I can't remember. He realized he couldn't keep to a schedule, if he kept it in house, also I remember him saying what he needed was beyond what his in-house team can do.

It is very likely both delay from outsourcing, AND approval from Paramount are at play here.. There's no reason to just assume it can only be one reason or another.

It's really not about The Motion Picture Kirk.

Nanjin has repeated stated that QMX killed the market for original Star Trek and Next Generation. That with showing a large number of figures from both in March that haven't been released or even up for pre-order, but keeps pulling out Voyager figures and Now Enterprise.

Nanjin also kept stating that Star Trek is unsustainable. That mixed with the Discovery figures that he claimed were a very small number and would sell out right away, (they are still available, months later) makes me worry that the figures aren't doing that well. Also, the only figure that you can't get from their website is First Contact Picard. Again, this makes me worry how much longer they'll be around.

Hot Toys has a bunch of bigger licenses and aren't likely to go away, but I'm not sure how well Exo-6 is doing. I hope these fears are completely unfounded and they are doing great.

Star Trek fans got their hopes up before with QMX to be let down. So being gun shy with trusting a company with the license is understandable.

I'm rooting for Exo-6, but am getting concerned.
Well Nanjin always said he wasn't in this to make a profit, and in fact he would probably end up losing money by the end. So I'm sure he was fully prepared for certain figures to not sell as well.

The only thing that might endanger the company is if people lose interest and stop buying these Trek figures altogether, but with so many cool characters to come I don't really see that happening.

I really don’t understand the holdup.
It would be odd if any of us understood the internal decisions of a business we don’t work at (or even in the same industry).

Even if you work at McDonalds, which has mastered nationally consistent no-wait food, delays still happen.

I understand that delays are part of collecting 1/6 figures. What I don't get are nearly incomprehensible posts that says delays are good. What customer thinks that's true? lol
If there was an oversight and half of the figures had an accessory with a mistaken paint job, you’d want the delay vs having a bad accessory when others had the correct one.

I made that one example up in about 30 seconds. The number of actual reasons a 1/6 production could be delayed (or any job) is likely enough to fill several books.

I’ve said it here before, and i’ll say it again. A handful of posts in this forum would be more relatable if the poster simply expressed their person perspective, like:

“Damn i want that TMP Kirk so much! Waiting for it is really hard!”

Instead of presuming to know how their favorite toy company should run it’s operations.

Maybe it’s more about the excuses than the delays. The focus of each excuse seems to change daily. In this latest he says it could have been ready two months ago if done in house. It was never mentioned before that this wasn’t being produced in house. As of yesterday it was all assembled and ready to ship pending approval .

So would you rather him give us no updates?

Most of us find Nanjin being open and honest refreshing vs the silence we get from other studios. If you don't like what he is saying, or would prefer silence, stop following him on FB, or checking in here. Save yourself from the stress and disappointment you seem to have over a minor delay.

I feel like you are making a mountain out of a mole hill here. Another short delay to fix a issue is not a negative, nor a problem.

Those heavily invested in TMP can rest assured that it’s a certainty at this point. You will get your TMP trio in your collections.

It’s a different situation vs. something like TOS and TNG, where we haven’t really heard or seen much since March. Will those full crews be a certainty, time will tell.

I don't really think that anyone is literally "upset" about the delays but perhaps a little bit disappointed.

I'm more disappointed with the lack of TNG figures in the pipeline, to be honest.
I’m not super upset. I’m still going to support EXO-6 and there’s a high chance I’ll have a new pre-order from them tomorrow.

It’s just frustration/irritation to be constantly told something is coming only for it to be delayed multiple times over. I get that delays happen but how does something go from ready to go pending approval on packaging to delayed in around a week?

Also I agree with the lack of characters from TOS or TNG that a lot of people want. I get the idea of not flooding the market with those characters first and killing the line, but there could still be something aside from alternate versions (Mirror Universe) or villains from TNG.

Never really understood the whole “killing the line” thing.

Collectors have their eye on their particular interests. Releasing TNG wouldn’t impact any other Trek line. If someone wants DS9, they’ll buy that to.

I’ve largely sat out the current offerings as I haven’t been that interested in VOY and DSC. I am happy to see some momentum building outside of VOY though with ENT, Shran looks like another PO for me.

It's very true. We often get zero updates.
Lemme ask ya: How's that Hot Toys Padme coming along? Oh, how about the Vulture? I'm sure we'll get a preorder from him annnnny day now.
We get a lot of updates, and back-and-forth, and explanations from Nanjin. Hell, the blowback from here is exactly WHY companies like Hot Toys and 3Zero don't give updates.
I mean, I think sometimes we don't appreciate that no other company, not one, is giving us anywhere close to this level of quantity, quality, and cost. And we're getting that for our beloved Star Trek, which was saved from the wreckage of QMX by sheer force of will.
I'm not trying to stan Nanjin or anything, but I mean, damn, it's pretty impressive what he's been able to do and I kind of feel like we should at least give him the benefit of the doubt.

EXO-6 doesn't need to flood the market with TOS or TNG but at the very least, release "one" regular crew figure to show that the series is being addressed.

One reason that keeps coming to mind is that TOS and TNG are the special ones for Nanjin and he wants his factory to get more experienced before tackling them.

Never really understood the whole “killing the line” thing.
It's because aside from Playmates which was a anomaly and came out during the height of Trek's popularity, every company that led with Kirk, Spock, and McCoy all fail. They may get to a secondary character or two, but they never get to the complete crew, let alone the other series.

Yes. You can never please all of the people all of the time but Nanjin put LOT of thought into scheduling, numbers, and the mistakes made by QMX. The fact that he is producing tertiary characters at all is a huge achievement. To paraphrase Verruca Salt, people want THEIR favourite characters and they want them NOW but no amount of whining is going to make it happen. Feedback might affect next year's batch of tertiary characters or which uniforms characters might get but beyond that, I think the timeline is broadly locked in, barring a war between China and Taiwan.

I haven't even thought about how that would affect the rest of the world since China and Taiwan are like the biggest producers of just about everything. This hobby will quickly become the least of everyone's concerns if that happens.

I’m not disputing what you’re saying but I think we’re looking at two different business models. I don’t know that much about the inner workings of QMx but Exo has dabbled into multiple lines simultaneously, or close to it. In this approach, you’re garnering interest and buy in from multiple collector groups, vs. a single line like TOS. Perhaps most people were interested solely in the big 3 and once they had it, revenues tanked. I don’t think that would happen here as your demand/revenue from other lines is helping to offset the costs of a Scotty, Chekov, etc. as an example, therefore completing the line. Production velocity is also on Exo’s side, the greater the turnover, the greater your reach to the consumer with their product of interest.

The FC line led with Data and Picard, there will be those who might just want Riker and call it a day, and others who want beyond that. Either way, I think Nanjin has positioned himself to leverage the successes of other lines when needed in order to offer complete offerings in each series.

Whether TNG is released now or a year from now, I think people have a good idea on what they want (e.g. I know I’m in for the full TNG crew) and buying behaviours wouldn’t shift dramatically.

Yup I'm sure most 1/6 companies are dealing with the same kinds of delays and frustrations right now. Nanjin is just being a lot more open about it is all.
