I wonder a bit if that’s why TOS and TNG are mostly being held back. The five year mission gives him the opportunity to release as many Trek figures that a normal company wouldn’t release.
Maybe, he’s actually said more than once that it would have been suicide for the company to release the more obvious characters first.
If they started with say TOS Kirk, Spock and McCoy it’s just repeating QMx for some collectors and others would have been happy to tap out at that point with those 3.
Then there’s the people who have openly said the just want the TOS characters QMx didn’t get to or messed up qty wise to complete their crew.
Similarly with TNG if he’d made Picard and Data (yeh I know FC but it’s probably not the ones most of us would want as a 2 and done TNG line) straight out of the gate some of us may consider that enough.
I think the only way to do all the crews from all the shows in the remaining time would be to release one or maybe even two figures a month.
From what’s been said that is the plan, Nanjin mentioned possible preorders every 2 weeks or so which would likely result in releases at a similar pace a few months later.
The thing is I have to question how realistic that actually is. Once releases really speed up will people keep up or will they just throw their hands in the air and give up?
At that pace not many can get them all but even if you’re collecting one or two full crews that’s still a fast pace to keep up with. I think to this point the pace has been about right. A figure a month could be manageable but that’s still hard when most of us collect other lines too.
Definitely… few of us have deep pockets and I imagine even some of those right now saying they are in for everything will have to make passes on certain characters. Nanjin has been warning of that though and I get the feeling it’s going to start getting tighter.
Fingers crossed I can get the ones I really want, I was never planning on completing the line and not necessarily any particular crew either.
There's a lot of figures to buy if you're going all in on every series. I think I am sticking to my fave 2 or 3 max for the shows I watched or enjoyed the most.
Voyager - Janeway and Seven (maybe Be'lanna)
SNW - Pike and Spock
Picard - Picard and Seven (perhaps Worf)
ST Beyond - Kirk and Spock
Disco - Burnham and Saru (perhaps Georgiou)
That's if all of these figures get made.
Very similar game plan I have - a Captain surrounded by 2(ish) supporting characters, eg;
Voyager - Janeway, Paris and Torres
SNW - Pike, Spock and thinking maybe La’an
Picard - Picard, Worf and Seven, though a Commodore Geordi would look great and I’m getting Shaw if he’s made
DS9 - going to be the tough one
Etc etc… I may expand from that plan with some crews but it depends on the budget, then there’s the one off’s where I don’t plan on other figures to match (currently) like Cage Pike, Captain Georgiou and Beyond Kirk for example.
Even that plans/wish list not going to be cheap and there’s only so much space never mind money - my back up idea if largely just Captains with a few must have’s like Data from TNG.
… maybe it’s just me.
