Tempted to get Seven of Nine and cancel my pre-order with Entertainment Earth but I just bought the Clone Pilot unexpectedly yesterday (got a waitlist conversion and went for it).

OMG, I re-arranged my schedule and raced like a madman to get my order for Seven of Nine in the INSTANT the Immediate Purchase went live at EXO-6 and was all paid up by 9:03 AM PST. And now, seven and a half hours later, she’s still available.

Something here isn’t feeling quite right. Either I grossly overestimated the number of people who wanted Seven and missed the preorder, or EXO had a lot more of these lying around than we were led to believe…

I’m not mad, just feel a little foolish. But the bottom line is Seven is beaming aboard!

Hmm… Maybe some of us are looking for a possible Captain Seven from Picard 3? Why even purchase a figure that doesn’t look right in the first place upon release (and there are noticeable imperfections in which the company denies exchanges when the customer sees a erroring flaw on their copy of the figure)?

Don’t feel foolish, you made sure you got her which is the important thing… trust me I’ll be doing the same with Quark in a month or whenever a possible immediate purchase drops.

This would be my guess, it’s the one I’m going for so it at least matches my own plan.

I was holding out for a possible Commander Seven but now I’m holding out hope she has her Captains pips and the updated gold delta… I’m also hoping for Captain Shaw so if they are both in the standard uniforms there will be a little difference with the colour of the comm badge.

Does EXO-6 ever sell out and it doesn't ever show up on SS or does it still eventually go up for PO on SS as well? I'm still waiting on TWOK versions of some figs.

Ok, now I’m a little mad…lol

Nearly two full days later and Seven is just casually hanging out on the EXO site for Immediate Purchase.

This feels a lot more like a formal re-issue than, “Oh look what we found in the warehouse!” or, “WOW! There we just SO MANY cancelations!”.

Now, on the one hand, why should I care? I got mine, be happy and shut up…

I guess the reason is (as naive as it may be) this tight knit group of Trek fans feels more like a community of friends (or at least acquaintances) than just cold business transactions. And friends don’t like to be lied to. From, “Oh, we don’t have nearly enough Seven for the demand, and we can’t afford to make any more” to all the Seven anyone ever wants or needs on demand for days”.

Like I said, I know I shouldn’t care, but I do, and I can’t seem to help it.

The Exo-6 website appears to have around 50 of them currently in stock, which is generally not a large amount of remaining stock for a wide release product (though I have no idea how large a typical run to completion is). I think that could believably be an amount of stock previously withheld for exchanges plus cancellations.

But there are also multiple reasons why they may not be "flying off the shelves." For one, the wider public has no idea what's available on Exo-6, the site doesn't have as much exposure as sites like Sideshow and BigBadToyStore, so only a small niche of enthusiasts will be ordering directly from exo. And second, Seven recently made a very prominent appearance in a new show that many would find preferable to her Voyager appearance, and so now that niche group of customers is whittled down even smaller due to people preferring to "hold out" for a Picard Seven.
(And just in general, Seven isn't going to be as in-demand as a classic titan like Kirk who sold out much faster for obvious reasons.)

The Voyager Seven might still be a little more popular right now if it weren't for the very recent Picard season 3. Speaking personally, if I were getting a Seven I would certainly be one of the ones holding out for the possibility of a Picard Captain Seven.

Yeah good point. When it comes to Seven I see a whole lot more interest out there now in Captain Seven than anything else. And I'm sure that would be a FAR bigger seller for Exo than the Voyager version.

Those are all good points, BO. I suppose I’m just responding to the idea that many would agree that we were sold the idea that Seven was going to be very limited in production, and when the preorder wass over, and retailers get their stock (if ever) that would be that for her since she was so expensive for EXO to produce.

And you are quite correct that 50 or 100 units or what ever EXO started with on Friday morning is a drop in the the proverbial bucket compared to a wide release of a product like this, but syncing up with your other point that this entire market is so niche, and then adding onto that the information EXO was putting out regarding how limited Seven would be even within the context of the niche market, makes finding even 50 to 100 units a bit out of sync with what we thought we new about EXO and this particular release.

It all feels like manufactured scarcity at this point both now and with her initial release . And to be honest, I just don’t know what we can or should believe from the company at this point. I mean, I suppose no one has been “damaged” by any of this, and I should therefore just get over it. I guess I’ll just take official EXO information with a larger grain of salt going forward. 🧂

I think Seven will be quite a sought after figure once it sells out, for one thing just look at the aftermarket prices of practically every other EXO-6 figure once stock dried up at retailers. I think there's still a lot of Star Trek fans who are oblivious to 1/6 figures in general that would want some of these more popular characters once they eventually find out about EXO-6. In fact I would be pretty curious to know how many EXO-6 buyers are Star Trek fans buying their first 1/6 figures vs. 1/6 collectors branching out into the Star Trek lines. I actually see this figure as being an ideal candidate for a big aftermarket price even though it has come back available for a bit. A female figure with a seamless and fairly realistic body for 1/6 standards, and a really popular character to boot (literally back in the day I never watched Voyager but I at least knew about Seven of Nine).

Why not just be happy that there was a figure that you originally didn’t have and now you do? What difference does it make how many EXO-6 still has in stock? Not being snarky just really don’t understand why this would be a concern unless someone is a reseller?

I got the impression that he was stressed/anxious about getting an order in for Seven and then a bit annoyed that he was feeling that way for no reason now that we know it has hung around for a few days. 🤷‍♂️

Well, that’s pretty much what I said at the end that I should just get over it. I just don’t care for the feeling of being manipulated by what looks to have at least potentially been less than straightforward information disseminated by a company I plan to do business with.

And I’m probably leaning a bit forward with my angst regarding EXO because of how their founder chooses to deal with even the most benign constructive criticism. I won’t re-litigate that here since we have all been up and down that hill multiple times. Bottom line is that it would be preferable to know that we’re being dealt with honestly and that there is mutual trust and respect in the interaction with a company we’d like to do business with. There is enough evidence to show that that may not be the case with EXO, at least not with consistency.

Perhaps a retailer/reseller cancelled a substantial order of Sevens and that's what's boosting inventory? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

EXO-6 has been a double edged sword in a lot of ways. I like the fact that we’re getting Star Trek figures. I don’t necessarily care for the person in charge of it and how he treats collectors who he doesn’t deem as “friends” because they don’t love everything he does or question certain things.

I also feel like there is a bit of manipulation. Like I mentioned in the TMP thread I feel like we get guilted by Nanjin telling us how Star Trek is a line that doesn’t sell well and all this crap and that’s used against us to sell certain items as “limited” when they may in fact not be as limited as we’re led to believe.

I don’t think that Star Trek sells as well as bigger brands like Marvel or Star Wars but I think there is still a pretty dedicated fanbase who are willing to support the figures being produced by EXO-6.
