I think I’ve discovered the secret of photographing and/or displaying T’Pol.

Low Light.

As soon as you hit her with full on studio lights, or even display her in a very bright display case or in bright daylight in an open room, those eyes pick up said light, reflect it back, and she winds up looking like a straight face emoji:

But place her under indirect subtle lighting, the eyes surrender their dominance over her face, and viola! T’Pol!

I have her on her stand on a side table next to me in the living room facing a window and in the late morning light, she looks like all the early photos (see the emoji pic above). I don’t think I’ve ever observed this phenomenon to quite this level in any other figure I’ve had. But the good news is that she can look quite AMAZING if you follow these guidelines, at least in my view.

Not really figure related, but am I the only one with pretty much no interest in this Section 31 movie? I’m on record as being a big Discovery fan, and I enjoyed Michelle Yeoh in her role as Captain Georgiou, and her appearance as the Emperor in the Mirror Universe was an interesting twist, but from the previews I’ve seen, the movie looks like a circus and nothing very Star Trek about it.

I’m sure there will have to be some ties to the Trek universe we’re familiar with at some point (most likely the introduction and/or the final act) but it’s just not grabbing me. It’s like they’re expecting “Academy Award Winner, Michelle Yeoh” to be 100% of the draw, or they would have put something more familiar in the previews.

Knowing how much of a fan NT is of Ms. Yeoh, I wonder if this Trek extension will draw EXO into some limited release figures (assuming the movie would not require a separate license). Anyway, I hope I’m wrong and the movie is excellent, but I’m going to let others watch it first and report back!

This movie will be terrible. The Emperor is an incredibly horrible and try-hard character. She's really bad. One of the absolute worst aspects of Discovery, an already truly terrible show.

I do get the impression that the modern writers think that Star Trek is outdated conceptually and they keep trying find ways around it. I would have thought that a series featuring characters outside of Starfleet would not be a stretch - Firefly in the Star Trek universe. I'm not sure that S31 appeals that much. Its premise is that the utopia of the Federation is only built on breaches of 'human/alien' rights and that diplomacy is for losers. I will watch it but it doesn't sit well with me.

Yeah I was a big fan of Yeoh on Discovery and even liked how S31 was depicted on the show before, but nothing about this movie is grabbing me so far. And with it's random group of outlaws and misfits it's reminding me more of some generic Zack Snyder scifi action flick than something with Trek in it.

And I'm also wondering what the point was of having Rachel Garrett in this if there's no connection whatsoever with the Enterprise C and she's just another member of this crazy group. Feel like she was only added for the buzz and name recognition.

Hell I'm starting to wonder if we'll even see a freakin starship in this movie. Lol

You’re definitely not alone. The trailer looks dreadful and has the typical dumbed down dialogue so it’s an easy pass.

How hard is it to create a series that is post-Voyager with a new ship and crew? Bring in some of the old guard creative talents (e.g. Ronald D. Moore) and let’s get back to storylines and issues with substance.

It's out next Friday. I had no idea until Yeoh was on Graham Norton Friday night.

I had to stop watching that a couple of years back - love Graham's sharp/cutting wit & talent, but became increasingly ticked-off by several of the guests.

I settle for the occasional YouTube clip that catches my eyes instead :)

When it comes to Star Trek I’m strictly old school. Anything after Enterprise has been of little to no interest to me. I never saw Discovery, I never heard of this S31 and I don’t know Yeoh from Yo-Yo Ma. So there.
I too think that is when Star Trek ended

Incredible, we saw the destruction of so many franchises. Star Wars, Star Trek, Terminator, comics! Heck Power Rangers.

The magic people had is gone. The new generation can't cut it. Too much cooks in the kitchen, CGI makes movies worse.

My theory is NOTHING is really meant to be a franchise. Two or three movies tops and that's it. Terminator ended for me after T2.

I think fans need to decide their own cannon in their heads as everything is convoluted and terrible. Star Trek after enterprise, never happened. Star Wars only has 6 movies and so on.

I'd even say after Voyager it starts to get sketchy. Berman & Braga were running on fumes, but at least it has that era's sensibilities
