None of this modern trek works for me. The other day there was a clip of that SNW episode featuring those two from Lower Decks talking to Pike and then at a briefing. I thought I was watching a joke of some kind. The lack of formality and respect for senior officers is unreal. There is no respect or formality. If I look back at TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY,ENT there was a serious approach, Star Fleet looked like a realistic organisation made up of professionals. In the modern shows it just seem to be a load of overly emotional morons.

What would be so hard about making a modern Trek show along the lines of TOS/TNG/VOY. I had hoped SNW would be something like that but sadly not.

These days I confine myself to just TOS and TOS movies. Nothing beats the original crew for me.

Recently I noticed I dislike modern movies more and more and I think the surround sounds are too much and too loud for no reason.

I listened to many pree 2010 movies for example, and this phenomenon was not there to this extent.

Because of CGI they are doing too much action, not enough pacing, and story telling.

It adds to why modern Trek is ewwe terrible....

I do agree - my two major beefs are:

1. The drift away from the naval style of commanding a submarine in space to more of a Love Boat vibe. I dislike the way the characters treat their personal lives as their priority while they are on duty, sometimes even on time-sensitive away missions or even in the midst of battle. No, Uhura should not be kissing her superior officer during a split-second critical mission to save the world. No Burnham should not be stopping to discuss their relationship status during a covert infiltration.

2. The inconsistency over technology. Giant turboshafts wasting energy on artificial gravity aside, this is mostly a beef about transporters. The sheer amount of energy required to disassemble and re-assemble a person is HUGE. A self-enclosed portable transporter parked up in sick bay? There is no way such a device would have the juice to function independently without massive amounts of battery power. Every time you switch that bad boy on and off, you are going to be flashing lights in the engineering section. Meanwhile Discovery thinks that site to site transporting inside a ship is standard practice in 2258. Somebody tell Scotty.

In fairness, the parameters of transporting were always kept too vague. Blakes 7 had the right idea - no transporting without a bracelet to act as a ground-based relay. None of this - target human life signs on that alien ship as a get out of jail card. Avoid transporter warfare or the Romulans could just sneak up to within transporter range and beam your bridge crew into space while still cloaked. In Picard they had to manually install transport inhibitors on the bridge - why the hell aren't they installed as standard? Arrgh.

Yeah the Berman era often had far too much silly technobabble in their episodes, but there was still a weird internal logic and consistency that they were able to maintain across the various series, which kept the world feeling real and believable.

Plus every room felt like something that could believably fit within a starship or space station. God how I miss that basic thing now.
