Hasty photo of the standard a minute out of the box! Will mess around with him more tomorrow and put him in the Darmok uniform!

Alright after watching this guy's review of the Darmok outfit I decided to order a second figure. As even though it's not my favorite look for the character, it's just too nice of an outfit not to have on display.

I’m just not sure yet. Every photo I see of EXO Picard wearing the jacket, the jacket looks very big and baggy. On the show, it seemed to have a better fit and straighter lines. I’d like to have the option to display him with the alternate uniform, but not if it’s going to make him look too round.

I assume some of the baggy/round look is due to the outfit not being futzed with enough, so I hope some better photos emerge, but so far this is what we have compared to the look on the show.

Thanks for sharing this! I only ordered the Darmok Essential and wasn't expecting many reviews focused on it, especially with the work involved in switching the uniforms.

Yeah it might be necessary to take in the arms a bit. But it probably doesn't help that everyone keeps posing him with his arms out wide like he's Stretch Armstrong. Lol

Here's my trash photography skills (well, if I spent more than a minute maybe I could have done a lot better)...

I just got Locutus. I think I stand by my opinions earlier. Locutus is just a slightly more accurate portrayal. The eyebrows aren't as thin. The irises are larger. The eyes in general are shaped better. I'm actually SUPER impressed with Locutus.

I'd say Locutus is like Data tier. Nearly a 5 star. I just don't often give 5s unless it's perfection. This is as close as it gets.
New Picard is great and all, but still 4 star. Mainly due to the eyebrows and eyes not being quite right. The nose is a bit pintier on it too, just a bit. I might be going crazy there.

Look at this. It's great. Though I do think the new Picard gets a few things a bit better but not things that are as important. I won't get into those minor things.

One note I will have for Locutus... I can't seem to take an photo at an angle that doesn't quite look like Picard. It always looks like him. I can't say the same for new Picard where you kind of lose it sometimes.

My apologies, I wrote Darmok above because I was in a Darmok mood. What I meant to say was Standard Edition Picard (now edited).

To be clear, this figure itself is quite good. Far better than what I was fearing based on the initial in-hand photos (so often the case).

Starting straight off with the head sculpt, it’s definitely Stewart through and through. A very sharp and well executed paint application which is very detailed and looks amazing on display with Data and Geordi. The paint up is on par with EXO’s very best. SNW Pike and Spock come to mind. This is definitely the EXO A-Team at work! It also seems, for better or for worse, a pretty “high contrast/high definition” paint application if that makes any sense. It gives him a decidedly dramatic look in my opinion. And that may be at least part of the reason I thought he looked overly intense from early photos, but in hand, I do not detect much of that at all. He looks great.

Now, the only nits that come into focus come into play when comparing him to the QMX sculpt. The EXO sculpt is a tad more narrow than QMX, and while it seems to me that QMX might have the edge in accuracy in that category, the difference is only visible in a side by side comparison, and you’ll NEVER NOTICE IT on display without QMX standing next to EXO. And as I’ve said, EXO looks incredible on display, so I can’t even hold this against EXO because it’s quite minor.

The other area that comes to my eye is that the top-notch and high contrast/definition paint up of the EXO version is eye catching and looks great on the figure, however standing next to the less contrasty, slightly softer paint app of QMX, QMX seems to capture the more subtle features of Stewart and just shouts PICARD a bit louder than EXO. At least that was my thought when I had them side by side. But I’ve since put QMX Picard away and am just staring at EXO and there’s just NOTHING to even remotely complain about with that sculpt. It is AWESOME!

On to the tailoring. Generally excellent as expected. The only issue, as some have noted is that his sleeves are just a tad short and can make hiding the wrist pegs a chore in any pose that doesn’t include slight elbow bends in both arms. This is a real shame because the uniform looks great, but none of the other TNG uniformed figures EXO has shipped to date (at least the ones that I have) suffer from this unfortunate nit. But this can be defeated with purposeful posing, but that might limit some classic Picard poses you might want to do if the visibility of the wrist pegs is a dealbreaker.

Over all, this figure is VERY good! I dare say you will all be exceedingly pleased when he shows up!

NOW! The SHAKA, WHEN THE WALLS FELL!

For all the amazing quality of this figure, and all the unique and welcome accessories, there is one glaring problem that no one will be surprised to hear.

I enthusiastically purchased the Standard version of this figure, and even stated at the time that choosing the Standard option for this particular figure was the easiest choice ever. But the dilemma now is this. After watching the EXO instruction video for changing Jean-Luc’s Standard Duty uniform for the Darmok version is so onerous and wrought with danger that I seriously doubt I’ll ever do it! Combine this with the fact that given the choice between the two looks, it’s going to be Standard Duty all day, but I really wanted both looks for the collection.

BUT! Having just bought a second Saavik to avoid this same outfit choice dilemma, do I really want to invest in picking up a Darmok just to keep the Jacket and shirt that came with the Standard in the box forever? Seems like a losing scenario. WHAT TO DO!

I’m currently trying to decide whether I put the Darmok jacket on QMX or EXO to get both looks.

HELP!
Quoting @QuiGonFishing's post from the General thread here, since I'm adding more thoughts about Picard.

I tried the QMX body and it looked wonky. QMX uniform has a bunch of shoulder padding to compensate for the QMX headsculpts long neck (or maybe i got that backwards) Either way, it looked bad, so i busted out my extra TNG Data (tried FC first, but the jumpsuit is sewn shut).

Data's body is a great match for the Darmok uniform, as it's baggy and has long sleeves.

Also, it's possible with lots of futzing and twisting of the sleeve to get duty uniform Picard in a more action pose w/out exposing the joints, see pic.
