Struggling with this one. Not a huge fan of Takei personally, but always enjoyed Sulu's character on the show/movies, which is why Mirror Sulu was an immediate order for me. Just not sure on this release.

If I had a chance to get the complete bridge crew for TWOK, that would be all I'd need I think, and I have no plans to then double dip with the TUC crew in similar uniforms. But if this is the only Monster Maroon figure we get of Sulu, would he look out of place standing with TWOK with his captain's insignia?

I also can't continue to just buy everything at this point mainly due to limited space. So, Captain Sulu might be a casualty of this reality for me.
Couldn't have said it better myself.

Agree 100%. I am not a huge fan of Takei personally, either—I'm not even a small fan in fact. But surprisingly this sculpt of him seen now looks pretty darn good to me at first glance. I'll have to revisit the movie and take another look at him. But being a fan primarily of TOS, and secondarily of the original cast movies I might hold off and hold my nose for a TOS Sulu.

That sculpt is weak. Valeris looks great though and I'm definitely getting Chang.
The mind is willing, but the sculpt is weak... :giggle:

Could it be that he needs a lot more scarring and pockmarks in his skin?

Can we just order that magnificent tea cup?

Well with any luck, Mr. Nanjin would make different versions of Sulu.
After all, he done it with Spock.
Maybe a WOK Sulu would be in the works for the whole crew.

I know I'll get some hate for this but I think it's silly to do Kirk, Spock and McCoy for TWOK and then do them again for TUC. I get that a lot of people want the away jackets from TWOK but why not just sell those as an accessory or something? The actors didn't look THAT different from '82 to '91.

Either way I hope they're able to complete the main 7 from TUC.

We're supposed to be getting the main 7, Chang and Valeris from TUC. Sulu, Chang and Valeris are the first three from TUC going up for pre-order.
Are you sure?
I thought that Mr. Nanjin was doing the bridge crew (the main 7) from TWOK not TUC.
Is there a way to confirm this?
I don't do Facebook.

I agree actually. I don’t think I need two versions of Kirk, Spock, and McCoy in the maroon uniforms. Should have just been the full crew in their uniforms from TWOK and then certain characters from TUC.

I get that Nanjin does a lot of what he deems symbolic and important to Trek history, and TUC is certainly important for being the last voyage of the full TOS crew, but TWOK is a more iconic movie (even though I personally like it less).

Scotty would have been problematic from TWOK since he doesn’t wear the maroon is maybe a reason. Though personally for the movies I’d prefer his white turtleneck and black vest look.

He's not doing the main crew of TWOK. Just the trinity, Savik and Khan (unless he changes his mind)

He's stated on FB a couple times the his swan song will be the bridge crew from TUC. He's mentioned doing some limited big deluxe box set of them all and offering them individually.

Ok
Thank you.
So I guess I'd better order this Sulu offering if I want to get all 7. 😃

Probably a safe bet.

My quibble with it is Sulu wasn't on the bridge crew for TUC but he was on TWOK. Plus he had the Commander rank insignia and not the Captain insignia. Minor quibbles overall, but I'd of preferred a TWOK bridge crew over UDC.

Well I think it's also because the supporting cast had become a lot more developed by the time TUC came along, and each become nearly as iconic and beloved as the big three.

But personally the only figure I've ever wanted is TUC Kirk because I liked his grayer, more distinguished look in that movie. For the rest I would have been content with their TWOK versions.

The mind is weak but the finance is not any better with a glut of TOS related figures finally/ suddenly coming out.

Think Cage Pike might be up sooner than you think ! And then there is the Tolisan and Gorn!! 😆
