in both my cases i did not ask or approached either of these guys it was the other way and i am not even going to get in it about that & I never have or care to get anyones autograph .....both were jerks....simple....just because you were or are on tv/movie does not excuse simple courtesy to other rich or poor...........PERIOD.
stars my A**.......IT JUST TV/MOVIE----GET REAL

My post was about celebrities getting irate about being asked for autographs. I am sure there are celebrities who are rude and conceited who are very inconsiderate regardless. I do not recall meeting a rude celebrity yet.

yeah but they must be used to it by now, that is the price of fame, yo cannot have your cake and eat it too,
you cannot be rich and famous and be a household name, and expect to have a normal life and go unnoticed,
I really think that is stupid of celebrities to get mad because people recognize them in a restaurant or in a shop,
I mean, Yeah Of course people are entitled to their privacy, and no, they should not talk to every psycho that they meet, but don't act surprised and insulted when someone comes to you and asks for your signature, you are famous, your face is all over the media, you are a pop culture Icon, don't act like people are being rude

I agree that accepting being hounded by the public in public is the price of fame, and so celebrities should accept being followed and photographed in public, ect, but still, if you want something from anyone, including an autograph, it is nice to be appreciative first.

Being in Australia, ive been lucky enough to meet cast from Buffy, Star wars, and even rockers Motley Crue. Im glad to say though that no one has been an ******* and every experience was very cool. :wave

Along those same lines, just because they're famous, doesn't mean they owe you a damn thing. :huh

Is your next thread gonna be ranting about the time you stood in Times Square in NY and everybody who walked by you was rude to you? :lol

If a celebrity is an entertainer, that isn't entirely true. As an entertainer, the success of one's livelihood is dependent upon how likable they are to their fans. People are less likely to see movies that star people they don't like. A celebrity that believes they owe their fans nothing is like a seller who thinks they owe their customers nothing. Eventually people will go and buy from someone else instead of buying from the snobby store owner or even patronizing the work of the rude entertainer.

If people want the fame and public adoration of most people that determine their success and their lifestyles, they have to accept the flip side which is that they have to be somewhat beholden to the public for their livelihood.

Not all people who are famous are so beholden to the public, though.

Athletes are less beholden because all they need to do is win competitions. As long as they win, they can be ego-maniacal jerks and still be successful. People pay to see them compete, but they aren't really entertainers in the strictest sense.
They don't need to be that likable unless they want endorsements, in which case they become entertainers.

Actors and musicians are extremely beholden to the public, though.

Blatant double standard. Actors and musicians are successful because of their performances. A successful performance wins accolades and fans. I fail to see how that's different than an athlete. :cuckoo:

Tom Cruise's career hit quite a stumbling block after his appearance on Oprah. His Matt Lauer interview didn't help, either. He was one of the most popular actors in Hollywood before that, and although he is working again, I don't think his popularity has fully recovered. I do not believe his box office draw is as great as it used to be.

Harrison Ford's been known to be rude to fans, has shown up his whole career, stoned, to interviews, yet despite that, he's still popular. :huh

I think Scientology ruined Cruise's career. :lol

On that note, I've met a lot of famous people in New York - mostly comic book and gaming celebrities, and they were pretty cool folks. I think most famous people try their best to be respectful in public. Although there are a few jerks - thankfully, I haven't met anyone like that though.

exactly thats why I said:

yeah they dont have to sign anything, or be nice to their fans,

but do not act like people asking them is such an insult, don't act like people looking at them and going to talk to them in bathrooms is such an insult,
that's what it is ridiculous, that celebrities somehow think they can be famous around the world yet still have a normal life,

they threw their chance at a normal peaceful life out of the window the moment they appear on camera,

you can't have your cake and eat it too, you cant be a millionaire, appear on tv or the movies, and expect people to respect you, respect your personal space, or leave you alone, that's not how the world works, that is stupid and unrealistic

they have things we don't, they travel around the world, they are rich, they have bodyguards, private planes, expensive cars,

Yeah I'd agree with points Blackthornone and Nam have made.

Yes they signed up for it, but yes they're still human. Sometimes they're going to be caught in a mood by joe public.

I don't think its fair to call a celebrity an ******* or a jerk over one or even a few instances where they weren't nice to someone. Chances are their positive encounters with fans far outnumber the bad.

Sounds like you hate them just because you're poor and lonely. :rotfl

...so by virtue of the fact that someone pursues their craft to their fullest potential means that they should not expect to be shown common decency and courtesy when in public? The only 'celebrities' who invite being hassled in public are the reality show 'stars' whose primary ambition is maximum public exposure. Otherwise putting your face on a screen shouldn't be seen as an invitation for strangers to treat you with anything less than respect.

The few celebrities that I have met have been very nice to me so I've had no trouble with them. The nicest ones were Robin Williams and Sofia Vergara.

On the other hand, I have heard some absolute horror stories from several people who've gone to WonderCon and SDCC, about what an absolute piece of **** Anthony Daniels was to everyone. I hear he is REALLY bad. I've also heard from people that I know say Lou Ferrigno and Barry Bonds were jerks.

My point was the issue of likability and not just whether someone is rude or not. I have never heard of Harrison Ford being rude or stoned, so that has not affected my liking of him in the past. Being rude does affect someone's likability, however.

no, the fact is that a lot of celebrities understand this and they don't mind people coming to talk to them or asking for autographs, a lot of actors don't mind taking pics, talking to fans, there are actors that you never hear bad things about, so I don't hate celebrities because they are rich,

I only hate the ones that act like they are Gods, like they are gifts form God himself to humanity, the ones that never sign an autograph, the ones that are too good to talk to a fan, the ones that act like the world owes them something,
those really piss me off, IT is because of the FANS that they are famous, WE made me rich, but they act like it is the other way, like we should be grateful they chose to be actors or musicians,

I love when I hear nice celebrity stories, I have met some too,
this thread is about Jerks, so, my answer was about Jerks ONLY. :dunno

well, celebrities make a very very small percentage of the population,
there are thousands, millions of us regular people, so, think about it,
when you go to the street, you see countless faces, you see people, hundreds of people a day maybe, people you might not even remember you saw already, of all ages, races,

then you see Tom Cruise, he is eating at a restaurant, or buying something at a store,
is it really that surprising people go Ape S__t when they see celebrities?

the funny thing about my answer to Nam, is that some people DO act like they are looking at a God or something, some people cry, people Actually cry when they see celebrities, like if they were seeing an angel or something,

the thing is is more than that,
you see these people in movies, you see their "lives" on screen, they make you laugh, they make you feel like you bond with them, some people might even feel like they are their friends, (I know that sounds crazy)
so Imagine when someone sees the guy from Harry Potter, the same guy you have just followed through 7 movies, who you feel that you know somehow,

I am just saying, it is more deeper than that, they are not just celebrities, they act in stories we see, and make us feel either happy, or sad, scared,

Harrison Ford's been known to be rude to fans, has shown up his whole career, stoned, to interviews, yet despite that, he's still popular. :huh

this is an example,
i am not a Star wars fan, but If I was, and I try to talk to Ford, and he was a complete azz to me, that would piss me off, it could even make some people throw away their movies, OF COURSE he doesn't have to be mister nice guy to everyone, I am not saying that, but being rude when you only know him from the movies, that crushes that fantasy,
I guess it also depends on what roles they play, I don't think I've seen Ford play a douche in the movies, so I wouldn't expect it, i would be surprised if he was, because I only know him from movies and interviews

then you see Tom Cruise, he is eating at a restaurant, or buying something at a store,

It isn't surprising, because a lot of people have no manners. But it's also not surprising that they themselves don't enjoy out-of-context attention and make this known to whomever has the gall to ask them for an autograph while they're trying to eat their lunch or take a piss. If people can't separate fact from fantasy, that's on the idiot viewer, and not on the artist in question.

that's just human nature,

I am not saying it is okay, what I am saying is that, it is kinda obvious that people will see the actors and think of the characters they play, it is kinda inevitable,

my whole point in here in all my posts is that, Why are actors surprised people act like *********s when they meet them, seems kinda ridiculously obvious to me, that people will act that way with them
