I hope this wasn't done because they thought a giant in a purple suit wouldn't be believable. This movie features a chrome guy flying through space on a surfboard, believability has already left the building.

I don't understand why they have to alter the name from Galactus to Gah Lak Tus, other than the fact it was the name used in Ultimate Extinction, but the name Galactus doesn't sound particularly dumb.

Certainly it's no worse than Dr Doom, but Gah Lak Tus just sounds stupid and it's not even much of a departure from the original name.

Just call him Galactus.

My faith in how good this movie will be is beginning to dwindle, this could be the one that buries the franchise once and for all.

I never had much to start, aside from Weta's involvement, I don't even think Jessica Alba is enough to save this trainwreck ... well maybe JUST enough.

:lol

I'm skeptical but I'll still give it a chance before passing final judgement, still it looks like this franchise has been placed in the wrong hands.

Shame because with the right director and writer these movies could've been a popular as the Spider-Man and X-Men trilogies.

The first three arcs of Ultimate Fantastic Four prove, if handled correctly, how great and gripping the stories can be.

I completely agree with you. there was so much potential in the property that it should've been given to the right people. The places where they screwed up is in the writing, the art direction, and (in my opinion) some of the casting decisions. The Director I think could've done an okay job if given better material, but I feel he was influential in the screw ups.
This whole eye sore is made even more tragic that a better "Fantastic Four" movie already exists; and it's not called Fantastic Four, it's called The Incredibles and FF just looks like a wannabe. :monkey2

Let's face it , the success of the other Marvel franchises was a complete fluke . It was pure dumb luck that they were placed in the hands of a filmaker that cared about his subject matter . I've read the "review" of the novelisation of the 2nd F.F film and if it's reliable the story they are telling is an absolute travesty . I must point out that I'm not a "slavering fan-boy" who demands that a film adaptation is 100% true to the comics , as they are different mediums and what works in one doesn't translate to the other . I am a 41 year old who has a great affection for the classic comic characters and stories that he grew up with, simple as that . The 1st movie , although poor , had a couple of points in it's favour , mainly Ben Grimm and Johnny Storm . Apparently these are sidelined in the sequel in favour of a Sue Storm/Silver Surfer romance sub-plot ! The Fantastic Four were always about Giant Robots! Alien Invasions!! Lost Civizilations!!! Crazy Technology!!! In short , the trappings of Pulp S.F and Adventure . If this subject matter is too "far-fetched" , "unrealistic" and "old fashioned" ( my quotes) , then why the hell are they making a Fantastic Four movie in the 1st place? Oh , I know , the Spider-Man and X-Men movies made an absolute s£^&load of cash, that's why ! Of course , we could all be wrong and the film could turn out great . Yeah right .

The subject matter behind the FF is far from outdated, like all long running franchises though, it just needs someone to dust it off a bit.

Ultimate Fantastic Four came out a little over three years ago and most of the arcs in that comic book have been amazing.

Same subject matter, just in the hands of a writer who knew what to keep and what to lose when doing his interpritation.

I share your views about fanboys though and I think most people have come to accept adaptations will be made from comic to film. Hell even in the books themselves, origins are written, rewritten and rewritten again on a frequent basis.

I think the success of the Ultimate line (a more or less complete rewrite of the entire Marvel Universe) proves fans can adapt to change. But like you've said it's down to the lottery of whose hands the project has been put in.

Sadly the FF seems to be in the wrong hands.
