I'll have to admit that I never knew that some of the screen-used versions of this prop can realistic looking eyes, rather than just gold. I've seen Raiders many times and never noticed that.
Somehow it would be inaccurate, thats for sure.I wonder what a 1:1 ark would be like.
When it hits in HD or if you have a chance to see it in theaters you can see the eyes moving back and forth quite easily as Indy approaches it. Here's a shot of the inside of the Idol with the moving eyes.I'll have to admit that I never knew that some of the screen-used versions of this prop had realistic looking eyes, rather than just gold. Hahahah....I can't imagine how much they'd charge for an Ark replica.
They've announced the price for that? (I'm sure it probably will be more than a PF, but I hadn't heard any specifics on price.)

I understand where your coming from and I've preordered one as well because it does look nice. The base alone is worth getting it. It does bother me though that once again the reference of the film seems to have been tossed for a quick fix out of the LF Archives book. I'm not sure the method of Sideshow when it comes to putting together reference matierial on any of their pieces but I would love to find out. From their protoypes to their production pieces it seems they pass over much of it. I mean, they all look great but in the end almost all of them are missing something - something that was overlooked, ignored or for some unknown reason, purposely not added. I can't figure it out.
Many of my friends who collect Indy on a light scale have crappy Ebay Idols with bad paint jobs and some bad sculpts so when I saw this SS Idol I called them immediately to let them in on it since the SS Idol is better than almost any Idol on Ebay almost any time. Its for the general fan, not the hard core fan, as is most of SS's stuff. Great but not excellence.
Isn't most of this due to the fact that there were different idols made for the movie depending on the scene.
As I said, I still do like it a lot dispite it's inaccuracies as it is much nicer than most Idols but I just can't get a grip on why SSC does what it does and for what reasons. I'd love to know.
I'm convinced that Lucasfilm has "character keys" or licensing guidlines for each of their characters and icons. When I worked for Disney, Mickey HAD to look a certain way, Pooh's shirt HAD to be a certain color red, etc. Indiana has had those silly brass snaps on his jacket for all the licensed merchandise last year and usually the same tan web belt. The fertility idol has had this look for all the Hasbro and Sideshow product as well as Gentle Giant, etc. I think Lucasfilm gives their Licensees a portfolio of images and that's what they have to go from. Maybe I'm wrong, but it's a possibility. I bet SS would give anything to have full creative license to make these as accurate as possible but ultimately the licensor has that power.
Are you being facetious? It's hard to tell.
