Who has an extra 50k lying around these days to spend on something like this?

Well that's the trick, isn't it? Everyone is broke and the plan is to make them more broke.

Someone needs to get the hell out of everyone's way.

Sell people like Richard Branson a seat on the Dream Chaser.

Exactly. They can figure it out as long as no one starts telling them what they can and can't do.

Isn't that what the plan is already? $50,000 for a ride in space. But how many takers would there really be? Who has an extra 50k lying around these days to spend on something like this? And is that really enough to fund even a single flight? And I don't know if someone that wealthy is wanting to risk their life for a quick thrill in space.

I was wondering what the impact will be to business. Didn't the shuttle launch all sorts of satellites for companies; satellite TV, phones(?), etc. etc.? What happens as those satellites starts to expire and need to be replaced? I think you can do the same thing with unmanned rockets carrying satellites as its payload, but does the US even launch those anymore?

wasn't Richard Branson killed a little bit ago?

Richard Branson isn't dead (yet), and I'm sure he would be more than willing to cough up a cool million+ for a seat. Privatizing will allow for them to name their price on something with only 7 seats.

I believe satellites will still be sent up by NASA (via rockets) and other programs. Not sure if you follow these sites at all, but they're a good read in the morning with some coffee -

I see censorship is still alive and well on this board. Don't post facts about the current administration unless you agree with them or get deleted.

Took these pics today at the launch:

Let's keep this thread on track - if you guys want to argue and throw out insults - then take it to PM and leave it out of this thread.

I left up your links Kit - some people may be interested to read that....but I'll be honest when I say I don't have much trust in anything that comes from Fox News. :lol

We do not need this to turn into a thread about politics/religion....so if those topics can not stay out of this thread...it may not be around long.

Honestly Jen, I understand you don't love Fox news, but those quotes comes from the director of Nasa. Fox News wasn't the only source to report it.

I wasn't trying to make this thread about religion in any way. I was making it about the new NASA directive. I think it's important.

That's too bad Jen that you don't consider Fox news as valid, as it's one of the few media sources left that isn't so far up Obama's ass that they forgot what it is to report news instead of pushing an agenda.

To be honest...I don't consider most news programs as valid...but for me Fox News is the worst. I do get some enjoyment out of it though when I see clips on The Daily Show.

Fox news is right wing/conservative. The may not be up Obama's ass but they sure were up Bush's.

Pretty much all news is spinned to serve the demographic of their viewers...whether that is to make them feel good or to instill fear and anger in them...it's all twisted.

Thanks for the great pic Kolar!! Really stunning - how far away were you?

There is a difference between Fox News and Fox New's political personalities/commentators like those you see being made fun of on the Daily Show.

I know that. :) My dad loves Fox News so when I'm visiting the parents - I see a lot of it...not necessarily by choice. :lol And the Daily Show makes fun of all....right and left wing...and no I don't look to the Daily Show for my news...I watch it because it gives me a good laugh at how crazy politicians and new commentators can be.

So anyway, isn't this about the space shuttle program? I wish I could have seen it yesterday - but was working. I'll never forget though watching Columbia take off when I was in school....that was a sad, sad day.

I thought he died in some crazy daredevil stunt. Maybe I'm thinking of someone else.

Maybe you were thinking of Steve Fossett?!?!

I remember watching the Challenger in our science class in grade school. Most of us were in complete shock when it happened, especially after studying it for weeks prior to the launch. I'll also never forget our teacher turning off the tv and leaving the room temporarily to gather himself before explaining to us what had happened.

Just an unforgettable day. :monkey2

I loved the video of that Shuttle launch a few months ago where the the guy was on an airplane and the pilot said something like "The people on the left side of the plane can look out their windows and see the shuttle (whichever one it was) launch... the people on the right side of the plane can watch the people on the left side of the plane watching the shuttle launch."

Woops - that's the one I saw in high school. Columbia happened when I was in college.

No problem. I thought that's what you meant, but honestly didn't know.

In either case, the images themselves are hard to forget. :monkey2
