Well as long as he believes that Batman is a straight white male that occasionally kills, I'm fine with Kara's views.

I think kara said he's okay with Bruce being straight as long as he helps break down social taboos against man/bat marriages like Sidney Poitier or something.

As long as Manbat marries Womanbat it's cool.

If he wants to marry Hawkman I think they have to go to Hawaii. But at least they'll save money on the flights.

In all seriousness, can we all agree that kids have malleable minds and that it isn't right to indoctrinate them with adult affairs? Let em' be kids while they can.

Leave those messages to an adult drama like Philadelphia or Brokeback Mountain, not an animated kids movie.

Well adult affairs include romantic relationships between men and women. Plus kids start studying civics pretty early on. If you kept all of that out of movies, what would be left? Teletubbies? And all of us indoctrinate our kids with our ideologies/philosophies/religions to some extent, which are all things that adults come up with and perpetuate. But I do agree that kids should be allowed to live happy childhoods relatively free from worry about scary things (apart from worrying about the consequences of breaking rules at home or at school, injuring themselves, or otherwise engaging in dangerous behaviors like not paying attention near a busy street or allowing themselves to go somewhere with a stranger). I'm not sure that Elsa (who clearly is a lesbian anyway) having a special female "friend" would ruin any child's life.

Not an argument.

Well think of Frozen. Sadly, I have seen it multiple times :lol Key themes are death of their parents, romance between Anna and Hans, and Anna and Kristoff, trade (the Duke of Weaseltown), political intrigue (Hans' scheming for the throne). If you want to go far enough, even a threat of a WMD in terms of Queen Elsa's ice powers, that ostensibly spurs Hans on! Pretty mature ideas, though of course, not explored in a particularly sophisticated or "adult" way. Same way a same sex couple could theoretically be presented.

Actually, when I think about it, I don't really give a ****. :lol

I mean, I do think it's an agenda (everyone has an agenda to push what they're all about, frankly) but I've never even seen Frozen. I just know that stupid song. I just saw all the headlines on the news and media and decided to join in. It's just getting to be a bit much, like this stuff is being forced in people's faces along with all the other issues. Entertainment just can't be entertainment anymore.

Guess the only thing I would think of is a little girl that's out there that loves the character but instead of seeing her as a lesbian, she sees her as something else. It would suck to have this character in your head that you relate to, only to find that she's dramatically changed in the sequel. You don't have to be gay or a transgender person to struggle through your teenage years or feel misunderstood or disenfranchised in some way. We all experience that no matter the color, race, religion or creed. Defining the source of conflict can kinda taint the character. That's one of the beautiful things in storytelling I guess, ambiguity.

I'd still be sick to my stomach if the powers that be made Luke Skywalker or Batman into a raging homosexual though, not going to lie. They'd be tainted for me.

It's funny that this isn't really something I'm terribly passionate about, either. But I saw a lot of bandwagoning in this thread saying how stupid the whole idea/concept was, since homosexuality is so terrible and that kids should be shielded from it. And I felt I should at least provide a counterpoint to keep the conversation more balanced. From the perspective of someone who actually knows several open homosexuals/bisexuals (I bet everyone in this thread knows someone who is, even if that person hasn't come out of the closet yet), and thus understands that they're just human beings like everyone else, deserving of respect for who they are.

This is one of those issues that a discussion/debate isn't going to change opinions on. But opinions are changing in general, so if we revisited this conversation in 10 years I think the discussion would be very different.

Nothing wrong with being homosexual. Comparing it to beastiality/pedophilia is beyond ignorant and irresponsible. Kara's right. It's 2016, people need to grow up.

Isnt maleficent the first gay disney character?

Her kiss woke up the princess (true love kiss) and they even moved in together at the end?

I thought the sequel was going to go in that direction.

Uh. Okay. Take that out of my post and everything I said still stands. :dunno

Of course, but why does the year make a difference though? I've just always found that "it's the current year" thing to be cliched and kinda dumb.

Like in say, 10 years if bestiality or public masturbation is hypothetically legalized and accepted and everyone is saying "It's 2026!". Why does the year matter? It's not like it's some obvious thing, ya know? Some people change, some people don't. There are still some people in developing third world countries that live like it's still the 1800s that are completely ignorant to the outside of their own world. You can't change everyone and sometimes ignorance can indeed be bliss.

K, lemme try this again.

Up, it's that time again! Let's play some progressive lingo bingo!

:lol

The year makes a difference because being gay is much more acceptable in modern times, at least in America, which is where you, I and the other people in this thread debating the topic, live.

It should have always been accepted, but it wasn't back then. If you were gay 100 years ago you'd have to hide it and live a lie or you would have the **** beat out of you. Nowadays homosexuals can come out of the closet and be proud of who they are. The fact that in this day and age there are still people who demonstrate prejudice against homosexuals, when many people have grown up, put away their archaic beliefs and realized that there is nothing wrong with homosexuality, is outrageous.

I shouldn't even need to explain why I listed the year because it's self-explanatory, but I think you know that and just wanted to intentionally misinterpret some tiny little detail in my post as an opportunity to be snarky and obnoxious - and you wonder why I don't like you.

I wasnt kidding about maleficent
It would be easier to make her gay instead of frozen
