Future of DC Films (DCEU)

Made a tier list of the live action DC films, curious to see what other freaks lists are like....

I definitely have a couple hot takes in here, I know some of you are going to give me s*** for where I've placed Superman The Movie . I didn't grow up with it and actually only got around to watching it a few years back. I can appreciate it for paving the way for everything to come, but it didn't particularly grab me and I don't think it holds up very well.

This ranking is just what I personally like, i.e., my personal taste, not what I consider “objectively” best in terms of craft. The Nolan films are all outstanding in terms of craft, they just don’t do much for me. 1978 Superman, for its time, is also very good in terms of craft but similarly doesn’t do anything for me now. TSS and The Batman are well made films, they just don’t resonate with my personal taste, etc.

Thinking on it more I'd move GL to Meh. It's actually watchable for me.

Not included in the list that was provided (and again this is just for my taste):

Aquaman - Meh.

1951 Superman and the Mole Men - Meh

1966 Batman - Bad.

Haven't seen: Jonah Hex, Steel, Swamp Thing, Supergirl

This is my thoughts on them right now with a sprinkle of what it might have meant to me at the time maybe bumping a few up further than they would actually be.

I see T800 added some (Aquaman etc). Which I now see too late !!

Some of the older ones I honestly struggle to remember how good or bad they are. Some could have been since I was a kid, so could dramatically change if I rewatched them now. Anyway here's my 5 cents !

There’s mine. Aquaman would probably be in Good tier. Nolan and Snyder are far and away my two favourite directors to have touched DC, and the list really speaks to that. It also really shows why I’ve become apathetic to DC as nothing released since Aquaman other than the Snyder Cut has been above the meh tier for me.

WIth Snyder being so high on your list any reason you haven't tried Watchmen yet?

Go for it! Its the closest content to MoS, BvS and ZSJL. I'd recommend starting with the directors cut, not theatrical or ultimate edition.

I've seen The Batman about 3 times now and it just does it for me. While Batman, I found it to be a total breath of fresh air out of all the comicbook movies we have gotten in the past 3 years. Watched a bunch of the behind the scenes for it the other day and it just feels like there was an extra heavy investment from all involved, especially Matt Reeves. Feels like there is a clear vision behind it. Plus this is probably my favourite depiction of Gotham in live action so far, an excellent balance of grit and realism while still staying true to the comics.

I went in with high expectations and it managed to meet them, if not exceed in some areas. I think Reeves did the impossible and created a Batman film that can stand alongside The Dark Knight in terms of quality.

Weirdly I agree with everything you said here in bold. I just can't get past some of the ridiculous inconsistencies and how stupid Batman is sometimes. 2nd watch was beyond boring, it took me 3 sittings.

I liked the movie. Found this Batman way better than whatever affleck was trying to do. Tired of the old grizzled Batman who is cold and not in his “prime” tdkr is such a stupid comic it feels like WB loves adapting that.
Felt good to see a young Batman who is already in the role and active in gotham.
