Sure, this article sums up my opinion on the matter. I actually think the writer is being quite nice. So instead of me going off about the subject here you go!

That’s right, you read that right. I would like to now officially announce that Multi Massive Online does not a video game make!

For nearly 20 years MMO’s have been methodically stalking the video game market, plagiarizing all of the essence and characteristics that make up one of our all time favorite pass-times: Video Gaming. At first it was text based gaming that was more focused on dating sims/ chat room style gaming that was masked as a sort of Zork-like experience where people were fooled into thinking they were actually playing a game. Then things started to turn more and more graphical as Ultima Online graced the scene and gamers were thought to believe that the World of Britannia had come alive and that everyone they ran into were real people that played an integral part of the “games” storyline. Then of course Everquest and Phantasy Star Online, World of Warcraft, Maple Story…etc hit the shore line and the whole world was online playing video games in one way or another.

Well it all ends NOW.

MMO’s are NOT video games. Video games are highly addictive, storyline driven, high score beating, End Boss ass kicking, make you think for a moment, strategy based, A beginning and an End, bring your friends over and have a party experience. While MMO’s are nothing more than a money wasting, hack n’ slash, leveling up for no reason, Social experiment that millions of you are contributing to on a daily basis.

Not to say that people that play MMO’s are bad people. I just want you to realize that your not playing a video game… your wasting time on a glorified AOL chat room.

Money wasting-many mmo's are free or pay once just like buying a console game...that you may pay 65 bucks for .
hacknslash-well since many MMOs dont have swords but guns...you can hardly generalize them all..and I guess he is saying no hacknslash exists in non mmo format? Please.
leveling up for no reason-what about mmos with no levels or experience points? Once again the are many non-mmos with level grinding.

Now what he calls "real" video games
highly addictive-well I think there is proof MMOs are also that. No brainer.

high score beating-guess it depends what you call a score but yeah a lot of them have high scores, competitive ones even unlike your console
end bosses-umm pretty sure almost every game in existence has end bosses
make you think-some do, some dont. Is he saying all his video games make you think? Cmon some dont man
bring your friends over-how about play with your friends anywhere in the world?

I guess the other guy makes some sense, but if his logic is to hold, then you have to apply the same standard to other types of games that people play through once, then spend hours and hours and hours playing on multiplayer mode. In other words, the Call of Duty, Halo, and Madden players of the world who spend a good chunk of their lives playing with "friends" online.

I used to manage a video game store first off. Every time a new MMO expansion would come out they would be the only turds waiting at the gate. They then would come in and talk about how they called off sick or are taking a weeks vacation so they can level up. But when we wouldn't have the game in stock people would throw temper tantrums right there in the store. I actually watched grown men stomp around and throw fits because something wasn't in. One guy actually ran out of the store and said he was going to Walmart. So I ran out after him and yelled "Better hurry up! People are leveling up all over the country right now!" Not to mention you could tell and smell most MMO players from miles away.

As for the writer, he made excellent points. Your arguement that it's the same as being on the boards really isn't valid IMO. I for one am not on here 12 to 14 hours straight with no shower.

So that takes me back to my point. MMO's are not games. That is my opinion of course and I'm sticking to it.
