I understand you. But, with nothing new added to him? Why the price increase?

I hear ya, and I'm wondering the same thing, too. I don't know why, but I just have a feeling there's more to it than we really know at the moment. The figure is still pending approval, we do know that much. So why the price hike?

What if they decided to set the price high with the expectation that the final product would end up undergoing certain changes that would justify the price increase, such as using the new body instead of the Buck? If they had set the price at $60-70 it would be much harder to raise prices later on, which could mean they'd have to give up any improvements they might have be planning to make during the pending approval stage. I know this is all speculation, but it's easier for me to swallow than the idea that Sideshow is just trying to gouge us for a lousy extra $30 or whatever. Does that make any sense?

I do hope this series continues and I honestly believe that Sideshow would not intentionally price items in an effort to squeeze money out of a dying line before dropping it. If $90 is too much and the figure tanks, then thats just the way it is... my guess is that is what Sideshow figured they would have to charge to make a reasonable profit on the figure. But if there isn't enough of a market for it then so be it.

The whole "pending approval" thing has nothing to do with the price or the body. I'm 99% sure they're just referring to license holder approval, which I think is mostly about ensuring that the products maintain a certain level of quality, and that they represent the characters in a way that the license holders approve of. It's not like New Line (or whoever is in charge of this kind of thing) is going to say, "nice figure, but you should charge less for him."

Personally, I don't really care about the buck body on Gandalf. He is completely covered and he is an old wizard. They could put him on a Hasbro body and he still will be great. It isn't like he is an action character. But if you add in him riding Shadowfax, even the buck body is fine. To me that isn't the kicker. I just expected something in the price range of max 80 to min 60. I will get him at amazingtoyz or some other toyshop to get him at the price range I want. I am really just worried about the trend rather than the individual price of the figure.

I expected 75-80. He comes with a ton of stuff and the outfit looking at all the HR is very detailed.

I've seen people saying Gandy comes with alot of accessories but to me he doesn't. These are his accessories for the EX...

That looks like a whole lot less than most figures to me.

Here are the accessories for Strider, a figure which cost $15 less:

:google I had totally forgotten about the amount of accessories that came with the previous LOTR figures. Now I am even more upset at sideshow for the crazy price hike. And lets face it, the costume is everything but intricate on Gandalf.

I don't see how it's intricate either, especially while I'm looking at all my Jedi figures with the multi layered clothing and loaded up belts.

Well, then I guess there's no reason to discuss it any further. You guys got everything figured out.

I tried to cancel, but I just couldn't. It's Gandalf, one of the most important and iconic characters in modern fiction. Yeah, the price sucks, but that's life I guess. Just gotta bite down on that pillow and take it like a man.

I'll take Captain Faramir's word that his outfit is well done and relatively intricate, but I agree that I have a lot of other figures that seem similarly complex, but they came with more accessories and were a lot cheaper. I do sort of feel like they have us over a barrel. If you have the other figures, it's very hard to pass on Gandalf.

The price hikes seem to be pretty much across the board, so I think it's just going to be something that we will have to learn to live with. I think Gandalf turned out very well and is a figure that LOTR collectors should be very pleased with. Now it's just a question of whether or not you can afford it. In this case, at least the money is going to a very well done figure. What other accessories could he come with, anyway? The moth would be too small...

Not exactly a fair comparison - Gandalf has a belt and scabbard, not pictured on his exclusive shot but they are on Aragorn's. Gandalf comes with 2 cloaks, also not pictured whereas Aragorn's single EXCLUSIVE cloak is pictured. Gandalf has the stand but it's not pictured as it is on the Aragorn shot. Gandalf's extra hands aren't pictured, not the woven belt (a 2nd belt) nor the haversack.

That pic shows everything that comes with Aragorn, but the Gandalf accessory pic shows about half of his stuff.
