I think it's awesome when someone disagrees about an opinion about a statue, and someone else takes it personal and gets all offended.

Totally awesome :yess:

True enough, but that's just a capture from the video. The shoulders in that image don't even appear to be in focus, and they certainly don't look that smooth in those high res photos....photo's which I am very leery to post at the moment for fear of trying to make Gandalf look too good.....:monkey3 : :lol

I just had a look at a high res version and yes, there is some more texture then in that video capture image, but still not as much as the Weta one has.
On a down side, it also shows just how huge the nose is. Is it meant to be that big.
Tho the skin tone paint, etc does seem better on the SS one.

I think so, Sir Ian has a pretty big nose.

Hey you two don't have me to to intervene and come in on this aggro!!:gah: You know what I'm like!! :wink1::wink1::wink1:

This statue and every other one is going to end up sitting (or in this case, standing!:wink1:) on YOUR shelves, YOUR mantles, detolfs etc and it's YOU who will gaze upon it, drool, cry, over it etc etc

SO.....

If you think it looks like Ian McKellen then it does and if you don't then it doesn't..........there, has that solved it?

Like I said Woodsy and FE , behave or I'll take a stick to yis both!! (and not in a good way!!) :rotfl:rotfl:rotfl

hmm, yeah, that is pretty big, isn't it. I think I see now what put's it out a little, the eye's are set back a bit too far in the SS sculpt, making the top half of the nose bigger and I still think the sculpt is a bit bulbous overall.

Lookin at the real life image compared to the sculpts I gotta go with they nailed the eye/nose area. Appears to be matched up pretty well.

I think where they missed on the statue was the mouth. It might look better in person though.

So which is it? Does the SSW version look like Sir Ian? Or does it not look like Sir Ian, something which I've said all along and which you are now apparently agreeing with. And how can you accuse me of bashing the SSW Gandalf when you just said the very same thing yourself? :cuckoo:

Here, this is your mistake. When i said 'So the SSW Gandalf doesn't look like Ian McK....' that wasn't me saying it doesn't, that was me starting with what you believe, and pointing out that just because you say it doesn't, doesn't make it so for everyone else. Please re-read this part of my post and try to understand it a bit better instead of spending the rest of your post going on about it.

I'd hate to see what you'ld be saying if I'd used your terms of "awful", "laughable", "too cartoony" and "a BIG fail" to describe it :lol

I never used a couple of these quotes, you read them from someone else and attributed them to me solely. Others have used the same words, so that shows it's not just me saying them or believing them.

As for the photo comment, at least when I'm trying to make a point I take the time and effort to try and back it up. What's been preventing you from doing the same?

Now, here, i must apologise. I'm afraid the reason is that i have a life and i don't have much time to spend for a long period each day to dedicate my life to this as you do :)

Now FE I don't have the slightest problem discussing statues with you either, but I do need some clarification. By talking rationally do you mean not changing you mind from one post to the next

Again, you mis-read my initial post. Please try again.

And by maturity, are we talking about the kind of maturity where some people feel the need to come into a SS thread, on a SS forum, and make fun of/trash a SS statue.....a statue they were never going to buy in the first place. The kind of maturity where some just won't allow those who are excited about this new maquette to enjoy it without being bombarded by bad one-liners. I wonder how mature Jeff Yaeger thinks you are after reading your "Marvel super hero" and "I am what I am" show tune comments.....:wink1: See paragraph above for a refresher on hypocrisy. :lecture

I'd LOVE for you to just be excited by these statues. But equally i don't see the need for the 'Weta owned again :lecture' comments. Particularly, as in this instance, where that is clearly not the case. Again, i remind you that you once thought the Witch-King LSB was the best thing since sliced bread.
AGAIN, it was not me that used the phrase 'i am what i am'. I may have used it, i really can't remember what i post in the heat of the moment, and again REALLY don't have the spare time in my life to waste looking back and checking these things just to win a stupid argument, but if i did i was repeating what someone else had previously said.

I hope i've shown you here how you can have a discussion between two individuals who disagree on an issue without resulting to insults, as you have in your last few posts. I know you'll be dying to try but your inner rage will break through. :dunno

I hope Gandalf and Aragorn are on display at SDCC. If so, I look forward to your photos. :hi5:

In your opinion correct? ;)

The Road works both ways in the end. I've noticed as many folks knocking any LOTR SS product as soon as they see it cause Weta didn't do it. As much as say some might have a so called anti-weta agenda.

I will make sure to take plenty of pics of these two pieces for sure. :)

Ian McKellen wore a fake nose during filming, right? The actor's real nose isn't that big.

I remember Sir Ian stating in one of the EE appendices that, though he has a reasonably large nose, when they put on the GTG hair and the hat his own probocis appeared too small and a fake one had to be used. I'm not sure if it was the same situation when he became GTW. He definitely didn't have such over-sized accoutrements to deal with.

Exactly! And in the end that's what it is - opinions. OK, i might have been a bit over the top with mine, and i apologise for that, but there we have it. I won't be buying it, Woodsy will. I'm quite happy to draw a line under it all there.

Now the world cup's over, i can focus my attention on SDCC. I can't wait for all the photos that will be appearing, as well as any surprise product announcements we will be getting!

Opinions can be, and often are, wrong. Take Mel Gibson's for instance.
Now taste there is no accounting for.

Weta GTG v SS Maquette? It's very obvious the best likeness is the PF. :nana: :lol

And of course even when correct, some people are total d-bags when stating their opinions. :lecture

Indeed. :yess:

The great thing about all these collectibles is that it's likely every collector will be happy with one based on price or size. So it's Win-Win for all of us. :duff

I've ordered both the Aragorn and Gandalf PF, they are gorgeous, how could I not. If they they do the entire fellowship, I'm going to go broke, to be sure. But I am concerned that I won't be able to display these inside my current curio, it's a wee bit tall. Will have to find other options, like I have with all the other large format figures I have from the LOTR series.

Fair enough. :)

The world cup was a blast. Enjoyed watching it. My focus has long been on Comic-Con though.
