Super Freak
I think it's awesome when someone disagrees about an opinion about a statue, and someone else takes it personal and gets all offended.
Totally awesome
Totally awesome
True enough, but that's just a capture from the video. The shoulders in that image don't even appear to be in focus, and they certainly don't look that smooth in those high res photos....photo's which I am very leery to post at the moment for fear of trying to make Gandalf look too good..... :
I just had a look at a high res version and yes, there is some more texture then in that video capture image, but still not as much as the Weta one has.
On a down side, it also shows just how huge the nose is. Is it meant to be that big.Tho the skin tone paint, etc does seem better on the SS one.
I think so, Sir Ian has a pretty big nose.
So which is it? Does the SSW version look like Sir Ian? Or does it not look like Sir Ian, something which I've said all along and which you are now apparently agreeing with. And how can you accuse me of bashing the SSW Gandalf when you just said the very same thing yourself?
I'd hate to see what you'ld be saying if I'd used your terms of "awful", "laughable", "too cartoony" and "a BIG fail" to describe it
As for the photo comment, at least when I'm trying to make a point I take the time and effort to try and back it up. What's been preventing you from doing the same?
Now FE I don't have the slightest problem discussing statues with you either, but I do need some clarification. By talking rationally do you mean not changing you mind from one post to the next
And by maturity, are we talking about the kind of maturity where some people feel the need to come into a SS thread, on a SS forum, and make fun of/trash a SS statue.....a statue they were never going to buy in the first place. The kind of maturity where some just won't allow those who are excited about this new maquette to enjoy it without being bombarded by bad one-liners. I wonder how mature Jeff Yaeger thinks you are after reading your "Marvel super hero" and "I am what I am" show tune comments..... See paragraph above for a refresher on hypocrisy.
Lookin at the real life image compared to the sculpts I gotta go with they nailed the eye/nose area. Appears to be matched up pretty well.
Particularly, as in this instance, where that is clearly not the case.
I hope Gandalf and Aragorn are on display at SDCC. If so, I look forward to your photos.
Ian McKellen wore a fake nose during filming, right? The actor's real nose isn't that big.
In your opinion correct?
The Road works both ways in the end. I've noticed as many folks knocking any LOTR SS product as soon as they see it cause Weta didn't do it. As much as say some might have a so called anti-weta agenda.
Opinions can be, and often are, wrong. Take Mel Gibson's for instance.
Now taste there is no accounting for.
Weta GTG v SS Maquette? It's very obvious the best likeness is the PF.

Exactly! And in the end that's what it is - opinions. OK, i might have been a bit over the top with mine, and i apologize for that, but there we have it. I won't be buying it, Woodsy will. I'm quite happy to draw a line under it all there.
Now the world cup's over, i can focus my attention on SDCC. I can't wait for all the photos that will be appearing, as well as any surprise product announcements we will be getting!
