Rainman uses the BJD style of attaching the head: the eye hook in the bottom of the head anchors an elastic cord that wraps around the interior connector in the torso.

If you bought a head, you can adapt it to use a Hot Toys socket so it pops onto a Truetype. I've begun casting those sockets for my own customs.

If you're not confident with dremel and 2-part putty...forget I said anything.

Ball Jointed Doll. These are large figures (1:4 and 1:3, though usually expressed in centimeters) that look very much like action figures, but instead of pop-in joints, the inside tension is created with elastic cords. Rainman was making BJDs through his Elfdoll operation for years before he entered the 1:6 arena. He was, and remains, a major name in that world.

And here you guys thought he just popped up out of nowhere, didntcha? :D

Here's the link to Elfdoll. You can learn more by browsing at The Junky Spot, a U.S. BJD kit seller. Blank BJD bodies can go for $400 (and Rainman's do retail for that much, which may lend a new perspective to his pricing).

If you ever visit the Triad board, MWD, or even OSW, you'll periodically see works by Arianne02, a faceup/buildup artist who has migrated from 1:6 to BJDs and is turning out some wonderful results. She's also been very generous with painting tips that will work well in 1:6.

That^^^.
My only problem with the rainman torso/chest part is that it does not always fit certain characters. It might be too buffed for many, like for example Alex, who is a skinny teenager in the film. I wish rainman would make the torso according the character and not have just one generic one. Just my .02.

Thanks for the clarification Gruff... I assumed it had to do with the strung dolls; but was not able to cipher out the letters :lol

Bill the butcher.

Thanks a bunch for that. I found the thread. I try to stay away from the 'Customs' section for fear that I will find even more stuff I'll be tempted in acquiring. I'm so used to the next project's / thread's address given at the end of each Rainman project thread, that I had assumed he had not announced anything. But then again, I guess it was always Zuno and SantaJack who did that, and now that they're out of the picture...

Oh well. My bad. Thanks for letting me know though. Now to see if I can muster the money for Bill the Butcher. Dang, and I'm supposed to save money for a move in a few months. What to do, what to do...

Hey, fellow Rainman fans! I have a bit of a dilemma that I was hoping for some opinions on.

I bought Rainman's Alex (my 10th Rainman figure to date) and think he's absolutely wonderful. However, something has bugged me ever since I received him. Alex's right eye is missing the usual lashes seen on the far right (our left) corner. Rainman didn't seem to paint a lash or two on mine where he clearly did on others (and those examples better match the actual photos of Malcolm from the movie). Also, the same eye seemed a bit dark, and once I took a macro picture of it, I could see exactly what was happening... eyelash color spilled (?) onto the blue of Alex's iris as well as part of the sclera.

I would really like to have the dark paint removed from the eye itself and have the missing lash or two painted where they belong. I really don't want to have to send the entire figure back, but I am reluctant to remove the head and just send that back for paint "repair." Does anyone have any advice on what to do here? How can I communicate my concerns with Rainman without a translator (seeing as how SantaJack and Zuno are now out of the picture)?

Am I just being too picky, or does the price we pay for these warrant demand for perfection? Many thanks in advance for your input, guys!

lol... When displayed that wouldnt even be noticed. But email rainman, i had a problem with my alex also and contacted rainman directly and it got sorted. Just use simple short sentences and there should be no problems.

There is eyelash spill on my fullset too. Couldn't care less.

If it is bothering you that much though, just get in touch with Rainman as 6joker9 said. :)

But that's just it - I noticed the eye looked kinda dark under normal viewing - I just didn't realize that it was eyelash paint spilled onto the eye until magnifying it. But, the missing eyelashes are something I can see with the naked eye, so it does bug me. :dunno

So, did you end up sending the entire figure back, or just the head? And if it was just the head, was it simple enough to detach? I mean, I know Rainman attaches the heads in a funky manner.

Thanks for the input!
