Gears of War: Judgment will feature class based multiplayer and a campaign set 15 years before the events of Gears of War.
That’s according to Game Informer, the latest issue of which carries an exclusive reveal for the People Can Fly developed project.
Playing multiplayer as a COG you can either be an engineer, a soldier, a medic or a scout. Each of the classes is a speciality of one of the characters in the game.
Damon Baird is the engineer, carrying a Gnasher and Blowtorch. He can deploy sentry turrets and repair damaged defences. Augustus Cole, meanwhile, is the soldier, armed with a Lancer and a Boomshot. He can deploy ammo crates and can top up the engineer's Blowtorch ammo.
The other characters are Sophia Hendricks and Garron Paduk. Hendricks is the medic, armed with a Lancer and a Snub pistol, as well as Stim Gas grenades. Her ability is to use grenades to revive downed enemies. Paduk, meanwhile, is the scout, armed with a Longshot and a Snub pistol, as well as a beacon grenade.
The Locusts carry different skills and abilities. The Wretch can leap over hazards, the Ticker can eat defences and grenades, the Kantus can heal teammates, the Grenadier specialises in grenades, the Bloodmount specialises in melee, the Mauler carries a shield, the Serapede provides ranged support and the Corpser can move underground.
There new mode is called Overrun and is inspired by Team Fortress and DOTA. You get two timed five-vs-five rounds with one side defending objectives. In the case of the COG, you have to protect two sealed Emergence Holes and a Hammer of Dawn beacon.
Unsurprisingly, character progression and levelling up plays a part.
The campaign itself is set 15 years before Gears of War, following Baird and his squad as they stand trial for transgression against the Coalition of Governments. apparently, the squad are accused of desertion, cowardice, trespassing, theft of military tech and treason by COG leader Colonel Loomis.
The setting is Halvo Bay. It’s the home of the Onyx Guard Academy and is inspired by San Francisco.
