very steep, considering you could probably make one yourself for under $50 without a lot of trouble.

Saw them on BBTS as well. I don't expect the company to last that long with those prices :lol

Easily made cabinet for 1/4 of that price. Trying to rip people off, especially these days, is pretty lame.

Spend almost $500 to display $200 worth of figures.

Time for TheTerminator's daily equation:

$500 (to display $200 worth of stuff) - $200 =

Dang. I'm in the wrong business if that's what they get for those.

I'll gladly beat those prices by $10 but just for you Freaks.:D

you know down the street from my parent's house is a company named "Gulf Coast Plastics" and they make everything from acrylic stuff to the signs that Burger King use. i was thinking about stopping by someday and seeing if and what they would charge to make some display cases. i'm sure they could use their scraps from larger projects to make these and could turn profit off of waste that they would otherwise discard. i'm gonna run by there the next time i visit home and see what they say.

wow i can't even fathom them trying to justify the cost. I mean it's nowhere near that much to make it, it's like a 400% mark up or something.

Geekboxes are designed for serious collectors. They use all UV glass, top quality materials, they provide a virtually dust-free environment, and they're professionally built by someone with 16 years of experience. They're made for people who value their collections and want to both display and protect them. If you spend upwards of $200 on a figure and see it as an investment and display piece, and not just a toy, then you might want to consider actually putting it on display in a protected environment.

Of course, you can always just get an Ikea shelf to put it on. Or cheaper yet, put a shoebox on one of those cheap shelves you get from Lowes and put it in there -- I'm sure it will look just dandy. But some people who spend a lot of money on a Maserati figure splurging a few extra bucks not to have to park it on the street is a good investment. Likewise, if you have a collection you value, protecting it from UV, dust, and other environmental factors is worth a couple of bucks.

Besides, the case that Lance made for Joss Whedon is pretty bad-ass.

With a Geekbox, you're a serious collector. Otherwise you're just a geek with too many toys.
