Generous, Stupid, or Both?

I lived in inner Brooklyn and Queens for two years (just got back a couple of years ago), and my policy was not to carry money with me, but ALWAYS carry a sandwich and some fruit. I would give that to people that needed help, and I would refer them to a list of shelters I kept with me. I did, however, carry five dollars too--just in case somebody really did need gas or change to make a call. I had what some would call bad experiences, but for me, Id rather have 100 bad experiences and help one honest soul than have no bad experiences but not help somebody in need. I love people too much for that.

I think it was generous. Sure you could be getting ripped off but that's not the point. It's called helping out your fellow man and doing the right thing. You can look at yourself in the mirror and know that you did what you could.

you have a good heart, but obviously there are cruel people out there willing to take advantage. However I found a dollar today... in the hallway going to chemistry.... SCORE!!! hahah I still can't believe all those people didn't look at it.. the dollar smelled good.. must have belonged to a girl or something.

last time I actually handed out money to a begger was a few years ago when I was leaving the bar at about 3am and I was hammered.
Bums had started hanging out outside the bar occasionally and hitting up the drunks coming out for money. I had already learned to just keep walking and before they even say anything I just say "Only carry plastic" and keep walking.

I walked by one guy who just looked at me and before he even opened his mouth I said some drunken smartass comment to him and walked by him and he had a look on his face like he didnt know what to say, then yelled back at me "Hey man! I was only trying to get money to buy a 40!"
I busted out laughing, turned around and went back and gave him $5 and told him that was only cause he was honest and didnt give me some BS sob story.



another good one is to flip them a nickel and act like you just did them some huge favor by winking at them and saying "thats on me buddy"
