nah man I almost did, but I chose not to. I still want to see it for myself.
Not sure if it was mentioned, but do they have a actual dvd release date.
Well, just finished watching it and I kinda see what you mean. I have to say, I'm left somewhat confused. Everything was there but it just didn't seem like a Romero flick. To me it seemed more like someone trying to be Romero than Romero himself...
1)The comedy seemed completely out of place and forced, almost like he was trying too hard to be funny, almost like he was trying to be an Edgar Wright but then came to his senses too far along in the story to make it work.
2) The lesbian masturbating in the jeep. A WTF moment. Completely out of place and quite frankly, tacky. There are a million other ways he could've told us she likes girls.
3) The whole borrowing of rival ranchers, Tunstall and Murphy from Young guns. It was lame and has me thinking he has his wires crossed between two different scripts and tried to force them into one by merging the squad with the rival families.
4) Added to that, the feasting on the horse was another WTF?! moment. The man completely bailed on his own established rules and didn't just jump the shark but did a triple backflip over the damn thing. We know from seeing Bub in DotD, that much later they still only eat fresh human flesh, so I'm not sure what the hell he was thinking with that.
5) The ending....LAME!
It's also worth mentioning that the CGI blows donkeys. I S000000000000 miss Savini and his practical effects.
...so, although this movie takes place during and immediately after Diary, for me, it just doesn't really fit with his own established cannon. I'd like to blame the suits, but one of the reasons George went with the company and now films in Canada is because they let give him a blank check and let him do what he wants. When it comes out, I'll buy it to support George, but man, whatta shame.
I agree totally with all of your above points , the second time I watched it , I nearly convinced myself that I liked it , but then reality came crashing down around me ! Individual "bits" seemed to work , but as you say , when viewed as a whole , the film just doesn't hang together . I bought the DVD sight unseen , as it limped out over here with virtually no publicity , ( a George Romero film straight to DVD ? Unthinkable a few years ago ) and it will indeed lurk in the darkest recesses of my DVD collection until that day in 10 or 20 years time when it gets re-evaluated and announced to be Romero's masterpiece ! ( Much like "Day Of The Dead" )
Man, I cant wait to pick this up myself so I can see it for myself.
I just finished watching my recording off HDNet Movies. I wasn't expecting much, but I think it could've been better.
Zombies riding horses and trying to deliver mail was just plain ridiculous.
