I hope that Sideshow can solve the problems with the exposed joints that will allow them to make a Slave Leia that will look as good and the GG one. I wouldnt even mind for them to sculpt a lower torso in a sitting position and then interchange with a set of legs for a standing slave leia. That would be a awesome figure but it would probably cost $80 but it would be great. Or they could have an inclusive edition that is sculpted to sit and then a regular that is standing which would keep the cost down. I would buy both.

With the existing jointed body, I am in no hurry to get a Sideshow 12" scale Slave Leia. Even the great sculpt of the T2 Sarah Connor figure is ruined for me by the exposed joints in the arms. For my taste (and feel free to disagree), visible joints just kill any potential for a lifelike appearance.

I agree but they are going to have to tackle this sometime and it might as well be something that alot of people will buy even if the price is a little more than a regular figure. I would think there is some way not to give up some of the articulation to be able to make a better sculpt. If they made a really good female body that doesnt look quite so crappy when any of the joints are exposed they could use it on a lot of figures.

The proportions of the arms on those Art S Buck figures are so horrible... especially for Sarah Connor. Wow.

BBTS got back to me and said there's no penalty for canceling early, and to do so couldn't be easier.
I would've placed my preorder for the statue if it wasn't for the fact that my Celtic Predator from Sideshow just got charged and shipped out.

I've been comparing photos, and if you look at the one that was previewed at SDCC here (2nd pic of Leia):
https://www.mwctoys.com/sdcc2006_gentlegiant_sw.htm
With this new one here:

It becomes evident that Gentle Giant did change their statue (compare the folds on Leia's lion cloth).
Now I really didn't want them to change the statue at all, and feel it sucks that they did, but they should at least show a new picture of the statue from behind. I think there's a lot of people preordering this statue based on pictures from SDCC, and since they changed the sculpture of the loin cloth and probably that particular rear aspect of the statue that had us all drooling might not be there any more. They may have said something more on their message board, but I think there will be quite a few disappointed customers once they see the back side of the statue isn't like it appeared at SDCC.

I still like the statue with the changes. I doubt Sideshow could make something like this because of license restrictions and it looks exactly like Carrie Fisher as Slave Leia. If Sideshow makes one eventually as a 1/6 figure, I doubt it'll look this good because of the joints, It'll also go great with the Sideshow Jabba set.
So I plan on buying one regardless of the changes but at least Gentle Giant should let their customers know exactly what they're preordering.

I for one am NOT buying it if they whimped out and changed it after SDCC. In fact, I won't even pre-order it unless I know for sure that they didn't change it (which it appears they did :( ). If they did, screw GG and LFL... I'll keep my $$.

honestly, if they changed how the loin cloth is draping behind her, it's going to look pretty unnatural. Look at how much of her hips are showing in the new pic. There's no way that her loin cloth could cover her ass without being able to see some evidence of it on her hips. cloth just doesnt flow that way.

The folds of the loincloth are different in the two pictures. It appears to me that they did change the loincloth in the front, pushed it up more into the crotch, not sure how they could change the back but if the front is changed, I think there's a good chance they did the same for the back.

I dont really even see the change in the front....but seriously, if they changed it, it is very minimal. And by the looks of things I really really dont see how they could have covered her whole backside given the fact that her hips are totally exposed. it just wouldnt look right to have all of her hips showing yet somehow by defying the force of gravity the back of her loin cloth is magically covering her whole backside?

I'd like to see someone photoshop the GG Slave Leia into a potential SS Jabba display. On one hand they seem like they'd go great together except for the fact that Leia is attached to her base and looking *down*. So she would more than likely end up sitting on the ground in front of Jabba's throne (she won't fit on the dias if Jabba is on it) staring at the feet of whoever was in his palace.

Now, if you had a Rancor pit in front of Jabba for her to be looking down into.... :D

Ok would she fit in the scale of the Jabba and the rest? I might have to get one now?

I'm sorry. "Wimped out"? By all accounts, Carrie Fisher, whose likeness is portrayed in the statue, felt that it didn't represent her or the character well, and asked that it be changed. So now honoring the request of the subject of a statue (without whom there would be no statue to make, and no money for GG to make from it) is wimping out?

My pre-order is in (at BBTS :D), and I'm going to be very happy with this wimped out statue.

I don't believe Carrie has much say in the matter, she signed away her likeness rights 30 years ago and constantly reminds everybody about it... "George owns my face, etc."

She could, of course, give GL hell and he could make changes for her...
