I don't know why I'm bothering to defend the idiotic ROC but the idea was that the giant metal structure on the surface self destructed and was pulling the ice pack down to collapse the underwater base.

I'm not saying its the coolest thing in the world but the common internet notion that the filmmakers thought that ice sinks is incorrect.

Saw the trailer in the theater with Holmes today and I have to admit I'm actually looking forward to this now. Already way better than the first movie. The Rock is really helping things but getting rid of a lot of the FAIL characters is helping too. That Cobra White House shot is nothing short of awesome though
