I kind of like the lean to the left a bit as I think it seems elf like if that makes sense. I want to see what the Ex, sculpt, etc to decide while its a character I really like from the book is it one I want to spend $200+ on.

OK, now I see where you're coming from. I'm not worried in the least about the likeness, but I am really curious as to what the excl. might be. She's definitely not one of my favourite characters, but I would like to have one Arwen representation in my collection. :)

Right and thats why I'm really wanting to see what see how it comes together. I want to finally feel the urge to really own a representation of Arwen in my collection.

I don't care for the crazy look he has going on. I like the focused pissed look Tim went with. Not to mention the look on his face is very similar to both SSW pieces as far as looks on his face.

I'm with you Josh, not only isn't that look screen accurate or a proper portrayal of the 'essence of Gimli' :nono.....he looks like a crazed psychopath in that photoshopped image. :lol

Right he has a few moments where he's got a real pissed off look going but more moments of focus while in battle. Plus we have two pieces out there where you have that look. This piece I think captures the other side of Gimli.

I'm not saying that Sideshow need to change the headsculpt to that exact extreme expression,
but you guys would agree that the headsculpt could've been better represented.

No, I think Tim really nailed it. Its got a nice firm focused look to it and think it shows that other half of Gimli we saw in the movies and the other pieces.

The photoshop work you did was nice its just not for me. :duff

I gotta agree with Josh on this one. The screen caps really help, but Tim just nailed the poise, concentrated, fierce look in the face of Gimli.

That photoshop work above is good, but I do like the look we are getting better. Just fits the character better, IMO.

Pre-Order exclusive tomorrow!!:yess:

I quite like the photoshopped version of the face and think its more in line with the overall pose. I really don't know how people can not see this. I don't care about the screen grabs; these aren't supposed to be scene accurate. I also never saw gimli as a poised warrior in these movies, Legolas was the poised graceful one (he's apparently been interpreted as a contortionist). Gimli was the one being thrown across a chasm by aragorn to kick some butt. The hairiness, the armor, the persona all screen to me more of a berzerker type of character (from the movies at least). The existing face is fine, but some expression would have been better I think. The piece is stiff as is, the face does nothing to improve this. Having said this I am leaning toward the ex pre-order tomorrow, mostly based on the pics from the side which shows the piece best.

I don't know there is just something about the maquette label that makes me think everything is more caricature. Certainly this seems to be the take with Gandalf and people were somewhat displeased about that. I also think his face is too emotionless - maybe I
m just a fan of more cartoonish statues.

As for Arwen, I don't get the extra twist either.

All in all, these are quibbles. I am glad they are making these and giving us new folks a nice clean line to be excited about.

Actually, the Arwen in the group shot is really odd with that twist. The concept art looked more posed and it made sense to be showing the sword sort of outstretched a bit. But adding that extra twist in the body, I don't know. What is she supposed to be doing? It looks like she is approaching a foe or approaching a probable friend cautiously and turning at the last minute.

And boo on the entire board, but especially Woodsy and Josh, for not noticing the ladder on gimli's base in the group photo sneak :) It is so obvious now.

Sorry, I'm with Josh and slynger on this one. I'll stick with the Gimli as portrayed in the movies thanks. :)

SS clearly stated these would not be 'scene' specific, they said nothing about these not being location specific. We all know Legolas, wearing his Helm's Deep armour, is fighting at Helm's Deep. Just as we know Gimli, without his Lothlorian cloak [if the dead orc at his feet isn't enough of a clue] is fighting in Moria. And like it or not, Gimli showed very little in the way of emotion in Moria, or any other battles he was engaged in. IMO this maquette perfectly captures the 'essence' of 'Gimli the warrior'. You may not care for the screengrabs, but perhaps you failed to notice I did not just provide screencaps based on Moria....I also included Amon Hen, the road to Helm's Deep, and Helm's Deep itself. All were locations where Gimli fought, most with axe in hand ready to deliver a fatal blow......and none showing him with anything remotely that could be mistaken for emotion. :dunno

I'm the guy who posted the revised conceptual art drawing of the Legolas maquette while failing to notice Legolas holding his bow in one image and fighting knives in the other.....missing the ladder pales in comparison. :lol

To play devils advocate here, those screen grabs of Gimli not showing much emotion are from shots where he's not actually fighting....
But the point is, if he's leaping off a rock onto an enemy, he would be making some noise.
I do think it's a minor issue though as it works fine as is.
