I think there's more detail in the pieces than you give credit for, also some people i've spoken to seem to think the chainmail isn't as good as it should be :dunno

I really want to order this statue to go with Aragorn and Legolas, as i think having the SSW Gimli with the 2 SS maquettes will look out of place. I like it from the side....... :gah: i can't decide!

I owned the SSW Gimli statue for years and although I've always felt the likeness was the weakest of all the SSW Gimli pieces I never had a problem with it....overall, it is a solid statue. But I have to say based on the photo's we've seen so far the complexity of the sculpt and detailing are better on the maquette. Like I said FE, my comments were in no way a shot at the SSW Gimli statue, but I do think it more than reasonable for LOTR collectors to expect more from these maquettes than the SSW counterparts due to the vast difference in price. The likenesses should be better, the complexity of the sculpts and attention to detail should be greater. If not, whats the point of buying these when there is a significantly cheaper options available. :dunno

As for the chainmail....I don't know. :dunno I am in no way, shape, or form a chainmail expert, but it does look pretty good to me. Now if someone wants to point out how it is 'off' I'm certainly willing to listen.

As for helping you decide, I'm afraid only you can make that decision.....maybe these will help. :wink1:

I really was going to try to quit this line, since recently I picked up the very bad habit of collecting Fantastic Four comics again, and they are crazy pricey. But being deluged with these images day in and day out leaves me nearly no choice but to order Gimli. Perhaps I can become a pick and chooser in the line...

To be honest, I would be happier if there wasn't a ladder at all. :slap

I hope it will be something that will be detachable. :dunno

Super piece nonetheless. :clap

I'm in! :panic:

Well if the ladder is detachable Bill let me be the 1st to offer to take it off your hands. I'd love to have an extra piece of ladder and have it customized to look exactly like your terrific photoshopped pic. :wink1:

No ladder is best. Great looking piece for sure. This line has been perfect so far.

Nice shots! This thing is pretty damn impressive.

Yeah, I grabbed these from Tim's DevianArt webpage. They really seem to emphasize the dynamic nature and explosiveness of the Gimli pose....a pose which I have to say is now my favourite of all the maquettes to date. Funny since this was the one pose, based on the conceptual art, I was most concerned with at the time. :lecture

Or..... perhaps you could scrap the comic book idea altogether. :monkey3 :lol

The piece does have or feels like it has power. These pictures, raw sculpt pics, and SS pics I think show that really well. For me right now the piece I feel the way you do on is Arwen. I need to see more before I decide if I will buy my first Arwen piece.

I really like this and it's a definate buy. I just worry about the factory paint losing the detail and also that the statue may be weak at Gimli's foot. Seems like there will be a lot of weight pulling on it.

Yeah, I know what you mean. The prototype is definitely leaning to the left whereas the conceptual art has her in a more upright pose. I'm sure once we get to see her from some different angles the pose will look fine, but you never know. :dunno

I kind of like the lean to the left a bit as I think it seems elf like if that makes sense. I want to see what the Ex, sculpt, etc to decide while its a character I really like from the book is it one I want to spend $200+ on.

I don't care for the crazy look he has going on. I like the focused pissed look Tim went with. Not to mention the look on his face is very similar to both SSW pieces as far as looks on his face.

It's growing on me. Those WiP photos look good, and the ones Woodsy posted....
I guess the only thing holding me back is space i have to display everything in, and my partner. If i buy something, i might have to sell something.
But the real biggie is spending money on these now when The Hobbit collectibles are sooner or later gonna be starting, and buying those as well as the Weta environments. I just can't start buying all these characters again when i already have a LOTR collection with them all in.
Like Fury said, maybe i can pick and choose, but being a big statue fan i'm gonna want them all!

Plus that new Gandalf photo in the banner at the top of the page reeeeeally isn't helping!! :lol

I like his face the way it is.

I also like the ladder the way it is (although I would of preferred it without it altogether). I don't like things that take away from the base, which is why I said what I did yesterday about the orc arm. I like a clean and uniform look.

I'm really looking forward to ordering. Then of course..the long wait to have it in hand.

All good points. The thing I'm thinking about is I'm not gonna get all of everything from either The Hobbit line or this line. That will help. It will give you a nice diverse collection of great LOTR collectibles. Plus Hobbit items. :)

U must get GTG. :nana:
