If the Gimli statue had that dessicated skeleton as the exclusive, I would be happy with that. I would love to see Gimli with and without his helmet, but given the amount of hair, that is almost like a totally separate statue!

I posted this in the Arwen thread:

"I re-watched both the Toyfair Lord of the Rings Inside Look video from 2/16/10 and the SDCC LOTR Panel video from 7/22/10 hoping to get an idea of what the exclusive could be for Arwen, but no go. The video panel showed the concept drawings of Aragorn, Gandalf and Legolas, and all three concept drawings featured the exclusive pieces: Aragorn's non-hooded head sculpt (confirmed), Gandalf's alternate extended arm with his staff (confirmed), and Legolas' switch out hands featuring his White Knives (unconfirmed as of yet, but 99.9999% probable).

The SDCC video showed two concepts drawings of Arwen, but the camera was panning up; the bottom drawing must be the EX concept, but the camera only showed the neck / head area before showing the regular versions concept art."

I used the same process to try and deduce the exclusive for Gimli.

I'm going to say the exclusive will be the orc / dwarf skeleton on the base.

Gimli's concept art:

Orc / Dwarf skeleton base EX.

That image was shown on the 1st post of this thread and Orc skeleton is indeed the excl.

Love this pose! Just really captures the power this little dwarf had. The sculpt I'm sure is gonna be amazing and I can't wait to put this with my SSW Gimli.

I was worried when I first saw the pose in the concept drawing. I felt it would be too dynamic and cheapen the piece. But now that I see him in the group, I think it may be okay.

Can't wait to see some detailed pic of this little guy.

I'm hooked on this line now.

Rest easy Bill. Gimli was sculpted by Tim Miller, and he is an outstanding sculptor. The detailing on this piece will be incredible. :lecture

Hi woodsy:wave, yeah I have no doubt he will be a fantastic sculpt...it was always the pose that worried me mate.
I hoped it was going to be toned down a bit from the concept drawings. But judging from the group pic in the 12 days of Christmas, it looks much the same I think.
It is a little too 'super hero' looking for me.
I think of the LOTR as P.Jackson did for the movies, IT MUST LOOK REAL. And I think the pieces should reflect that. But that's just me I guess.

But I'm still in! It's still a super line and I hope to support it all the way (finances allowing).

This one should be really interesting. But in this case, I'm more interested in seeing how the base turns out more than Gimli himself.

I think that Gimli is arguably the only major character that Sideshow or Weta have done with consistenly a good likeness.

What? :thud:
I guess you are taking the likeness as a given then Fritz...mind you, as Tim is sculpting him, I'll give you that one :yess:.

I wouldn't worry too much on the base. Sideshow normally does a great job on that part of it for what I've seen. I'm more curious to see how Gimli turns out.

Gimli 'movie' could not match Gimli 'book' for dynamism due to heavy prosthetics, costuming, scale issues etc, so I think this pose captures both versions perfectly. In the books Gimli is held in awe at Helms Deep for the way he wields his axe, whilst in the films he looks a bit 'clunky' during set fight scenes, but very 'Dwarfish'. This is a great pose for for one of the most ferocious of the Fellowship :lecture

No, it's not that. I'm more interested in what the base looks like because I'm more than happy with the Weta Gimli and almost certainly won't be getting this one unless it absolutely totally blows me away including the base.

Yeah, the SSW version does look fantastic Fritz.

I lightened up the SS maquette Gimli a little...he is looking great too...of course we won't know about the base until we see the exclusive.

Bill,

Thanks for the photoshop work, the level of detail that you can see in the silhouette shot is already very promising. I like the pose, and the base looks to be a nice way to give a shorter stature character a little height on the shelf!
