did any of you actually bother to look at the compared screen caps between the bluray and the DVD? even with problems.. it's still 100x clearer, sharper and more detailed. So please don't say that there's no point in this as the DVD is as good

I did ... the edge enhancement and DNR are terrible. The color saturation is actually bad and shows bleeding.

It's a true pass.

While that may be true, the transfer does not live up to the quality of blu-ray.

Basically, what I am trying to say is: the transfer is ^^^^ing terrible.

:)

While I can't comment with experience, all the evidence is saying that the Gladiator print is not great - that doesn't mean it's not bad - but it doesn't live up to Bluray's potential (especially when compared to Braveheart) - but who knows, maybe they will re-release it if there is enough noise made about it.

My problem with screen shots is that they are only 1/24th of a second of the entire film as there are 24 frames per second.

I'm still confused. So should I buy it because it's better than the standard DVD or not buy it because the quality is lacking for a blu-ray? Will I notice much difference from my PS3 up-converted DVD on a 62" DLP screen?

I say stick with the DVD. Hopefully they realise they f'd up and will fix it and re-release it and offer replacement for those who bought it.
Also, it's the movies 10th anniversary next year. I'm sure they'll take advantage of that :lol

I would say DON'T BUY IT. Show your outrage to Paramount by helping to keep sales down so they'll do a recall and reissue. Of course, I don't really know how much that'll help since the general public (98%?) is so uneducated about Blu-ray.

Just watched it myself and it's not as bad as being posted by those idiots on amazon.com. How can people actually take what these people say seriously when they are allowed to post reviews up before the film is releases.

Screenshots represent 1/24th of a second and should not form any basis of deciding whether or not to buy/rent. This film is much better than DVD. It's not reference but it's not crap either. I would have no hesitation in recommending someone to rent it. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
