So they actually read newspapers and drink coffee in Ancient Rome.
And of course, Numidia is the last bastion of freedom. Nevermind it had been a colony of the Roman Empire for some 3 centuries by then. And don't even get me started on the portrayal of the emperors.
As I said, being interested in Roman history, there's no way I could enjoy this one.

Yeah I get the impression Ridley wanted those nutty, impulsive, power mad emperors with bad hair to represent something, but who knows what that could be....

Cartoon monkies :gah:

Those monkies and sharks would never fit in Gladiator 1.
Yep.

What drives me really crazy is that cgi apes have been perfected and this is what we get???

It should have been the scariest movie scene ever cause I HATE baboons. But the obvious animation took me out of it.

I did enjoy Denzel’s over the top acting. That was fun.

Go for the action and visuals but that’s it.

Do not walk into this expecting some great meaningful follow up to Maximus’s story I mean so bizarre that the movie tried initially to be mysterious with who the character was, like seriously duh lol

I had zero connection to the main character.

He was decent at playing the part but Ridley knew this was a problem so he tried inserting an extra warrior with his own arc and not even TWO characters could fill Maximus’s shoes!
Not 1, not 2, but 3 less than enthusiastic speeches were delivered by this character. I thought he was ok at first but then he kept talking and putting me to sleep.

Don’t get me wrong the movie is NOT a disastrous POS absolutely not that all, all i’m saying is go for the action and the visuals and just the action and the visuals and you will walk away saying ok not bad for an action movie like I did but I was hoping for lightning to strike twice in a bottle.
This movie was as mid tier as they come.

Action was good when not obviously CGI
Denzel, the emperor twins, and Mando all kept my interest on screen. The film went in some directions I didn’t expect

Had one of the more cringey endings.

The speeches to the Army of thousands is played out. all I can think of is all the soldiers going
“What did he say?”
“I can’t hear him can you?”
“Is he saying something?”

Maybe i’m wrong for expecting a follow up to Gladiator by the same director to forge its own path towards being a memorable cinema classic in its own right because it certainly will be forgotten in a few months.
You had higher expectations than I did… Sorry :)
Not having Zimmer certainly makes certain of that.
THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think you guys have set me up to enjoy this movie. I wasn't expecting much. My daughter told me to expect even less than that. She knows how much I enjoy Gladiator. This had a lot to live up to and I knew it wasn't going to deliver. The initial positive reviews piqued my interest, but deep down I knew. I'll just watch it for the "spectacle" and never see it again.
