I just don't dig this design. I feel bad.

Same here. I'm starting to resign myself to the simple fact that I'm no longer the target audience for most films currently being made. Marvel & Star Wars are the only exceptions, and I know that is a temporary reprieve at best.

This looks a Godzilla film made by people who don't know anything about Godzilla, like Fox's last stab at FF and the abomination that was BvS.

How does it look like they don't know anything about him?

Perhaps I'm being overly negative, but I don't see a lot of respect for Godzilla in that design.
Even if this new mangled-looming version is pretty much what the original image of the 54 monster was meant to look more of? I see this guy in the same light as the original suit. Maybe not as aesthetically pleasing (though 54 was far from a charmer himself) but keeps with the idea, the concept, of what the suit couldn't get across.

Not coming at your opinion at all I just like the conversations about it.

Godzilla is formidable because of his ability to wreak destruction in myriad ways. This new design all but robs him of his ability to grapple with an enemy.

I don't think he'll have an enemy to grapple with. And if the regeneration theory is true then it makes sense that he won't necessarily be "battle ready". That's the inconvenience with regeneration...you can get caught in the middle of it lol

:lol Well said again!

Lots of atomic breath spamming before his arms grow back me thinks. :lol

But even if his arms do grow longer if there are no other monsters for him to grapple with what is he going to do just knock over an electrical tower lol.

Regardless, I just can't see this being his only or final form anyways.

Nice!

Sakai doing incredible work again. Can monsterarts use that sculpt and add articulation? Or would he have to resculpt it for every company that releases his work for g16?

He'd probably have to do a new sculpt, not for being different companies, but with the tail sculped in such a pose, that likely isn't ideal for monsterarts to take and do their thing to articulate it.

But, if you've ever seen his Dream Book, he is VERY consistent and you can definitely look at this sculpt as expectation for what SHMA would look like.

Luckily the roaring shot in the trailer confirms he has flesh in his mouth between the upper and lower halves like the JP T-Rex and 2014 Godzilla, so while he has a deep mouth, it doesn't look as ridiculous as it seemed it could be when we just had the poster shot.

I think the new design looks pretty cool, I'm looking forward to the film and the monster arts figure that will inevitably be made

I'm gonna be that guy whos says "im liking it more and more with every new picture" are you ready?

I'm liking it more and more with every new picture! :panic:

I stand by my comments based on the poster, even more so now that we've seen it in other lighting and angles, the poster portrait does not depict this design at it's best, and Toho should have gone with a different angle.

Between the trailer, the official photo and the Sakai sculpt photos, I'm sold on Shin Gojira and he's actually in my top 5 Godzilla designs.

Like most, the unique details about him, muscle textures and such, coupled with the Attack on Titan designs and very different face made me fear when his full body was revealed, it would hardly resemble Godzilla. Then we got the leaks, which showed more muscle and bone like patterns, which made me think I was right, and the limited view made proportions look bad.

Now we get the trailer and all these product photos and a clear look, and all the parts that seemed indicative of a radical redesign pretty much end at his chest and actually don't seem as radical in the grand scheme. I also see traits of the '54 suit and puppet and the '84 suit, my top 2 favorite designs. Mixed with that, I've always enjoyed the look of lava and the red glow mixed into his skin looks really cool.
